Question re ferry tickets for Amalfi Coast...purchase ahead?
In order to guarantee a spot on a ferry returning to Positano from Amalfi...can I purchase this ticket in Positano before we leave in the morning or must I purchase it in Amalfi? Can you purchase tickets a day ahead? We are not taking the ferry to Amalfi.
Thank you.
Thank you.

It would be very unusual to purchase a ferry ticket from Amalfi to Positano the day beforehand or even in Positano on the morning of your trip. I'm not even sure that this can be done, since the sale of tickets (in advance) is not tied to space availability on the ferry. Taking this ferry is like taking a city bus. In any event, there's absolutely no point doing so except during the period between mid-June through mid-September (and even then, I doubt it's done).

It is not even clear if the boats are running in April.
«Il metrò del mare tornerà a maggio», ha assicurato Ennio Cascetta perché «in questi giorni sono in corso le procedure per il nuovo bando di gara che assegnerà il servizio per i prossimi tre anni

The Cooperativa Sant'Andrea ferry boats should be running between Amalfi and Positano in late April, unless the sea conditions are bad:

Being a Saturday on a National Holiday weekend, it is more likely than not that at least some of the boat services will be offered. But I really, really doubt it's possible to "book" a seat in advance. These ferries are operated like SITA buses on water. No harm in asking locally, however.

You shouldn't need to purchase in advance. The only boats that get filled in advance are the trips from Positano to Capri and back. Definitely need a day in advance for those. Your hotel will help do this for you if you ask.
