thanks for the clarification, Ira. I guess it's the SITA bus that people keep saying is always so crowded.

Hi Dina,

Yes, the SITA bus will be very crowded in the summer. That is the only drawback (for me) to staying in Praiano.

If I were to go to the Amalfi Coast again during the season, I would stay put in one lovely place - or stay where I could get public trans via the water!

I can't wait to get on vacation. 7 days for me! Maybe we'll see you in Tofino!

Dina,

The beach in Praiano isn't much. Very small, rocky cove with a little sand and lots of fishermen's boats. There was a little bar on the cliffside, but that was many years ago (1996). On my last trip I didn't even walk down. Too busy doing other things.

Yes, there are taxis in each town on the Amalfi Coast. Travelling via ferry is a better option when traveling to/from Positano, Amalfi and Salerno.

Depends on your travelling style. We stayed in Praiano. It's good if you want quiet. If you like to go out at night, walk around, maybe go to a restaurant, then Sorrento is your place. Personally I prefer Sorrento. We stayed at Villa Oriano, just outside Sorrento. was very easy to take train in and out of Sorrento.

Forget Ischia! Why go there when you could go to Capri? Or maybe Capri is later in the trip - if so, ignore my rant.

Seriously, Capri is incredibly nicer. Ischia is concrete block hotels for German and Russian tourists.

Naples is great fun, but is you're staying in Naples, you're visiting Naples. If you want the coast, go to the coast.

Oh just forgot - if you do consider Pompeii, also consider Herculaneum. Different, and really, realy interesting.
