Amalfi coast without car

Are there taxis that run between the different towns along amalfi coast that you can get as needed or do u need a "private driver" that needs to be scheduled ahead of time . If there are taxis , Are there taxi stands or do u need to call them ?

There are SITA buses that run up and down the coast, but in season they can be extremely crowded. You can call a taxi at your hotel, and/or there are a few ( very few) taxi stands in some of the towns. ( I think I saw one at the dock in Amalfi).

Plenty of taxis, as noted above. But you should be aware of the pretty high prices. I am guessing about 30 euro to go from one town to the next. For example Praiano to Positano. Two years ago I seem to remember that we paid 50-60 euro from Sorrento to Praiano (don't ask..not my idea!!).

Buses are jam-packed with seats hard to come by in high season.

Taxis are very expensive and are difficult to find out Positano and Amalfi.
Buses operated by the Sita bus company run between all the towns on the Amalfi Coast.
Here some tips

and the bus info http://www.unicocampania.it/index.ph...anner=costiera

Buses are so so frequent that if one is chock full the next one may not be - but they are a reliable way of getting around cheaply - the several I took in fall were never full but in peak season it seems they may be.

Boats between Positano and Amalfi, etc also run in season as well as to Salerno and Sorrento.
