Hello,

I will be travelling to Munich and staying near the Exhibition Center. I will be relying on public transportation while I am there. Is there a subway train or tram that goes directly from the Airport to the Exhibition Center. It looks like it is about thirty minutes away based on Google maps.
Also, it looks like it is about twenty minutes from the Exhibition Center to the Marienplatz. Can these tickets be purchased online or just at the train stations? Is there a train that goes directly there as well? I was also considering getting a week long or multiday pass while I am there, but there looks like there are several different options. I will primarily be traveling from the Exhibition Center to the Marienplatz area, except for one trip from the Airport. Any information provided would be much appreciated. Also, what are the approximate costs?

A quick search on Google map indicates that the S-Bahn connects the airport to the Neue Messe, München, which means that there is also a direct connection between the exhibition center and the center of Munich.

Based on Google maps, looks like it is 60-90 minutes to get from the airport to the Messe,München exhibition center by train. Is there another suggested method of transportation. I could imagine that taking a cab would be very pricey.

Google maps is the wrong thing to use to figure out public transport in Munich.

If you go to the website of the exhibition center you will find the directions for getting there from the airport using public transportation. It takes about 45 minutes. You should buy a Day Ticket for all 4 rings (about 10 euros) for this trip. A taxi would cost about 65 Euros, perhaps more depending on traffic. You buy the tickets right at the train station from the machines, they have English as a selection. You can pay with Euros or a credit card.

There are no week-long or multi-day passes. Typically we find that the Day Ticket for Inner Zone is the best bet. Good all day, costs about 5 Euros. It costs more from the airport because the airport lies in the furthest ring. If you are staying near the Exhibition center you will be fine with the Day Ticket for all of your travel around inner city as the Center is in the Inner zone.

Munich "Messe" fairgrounds are connected to the city center by subway line #2.
Which connects to the S-Bahn network for travels to /from the airport at Hauptbahnhof (central station, served both by S-Bahn lines 1 and 8) and Feldmoching (only to S-Bahn line #1)
The fairgrounds have 2 subway stops - Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost.
At Messestadt West you will also find a decent sized mall for shopping.

For certain/many exhibitions, there are direct shuttle buses provided from/to the airport. You should check your convention's website.
Otherwise there is a fixed cab fare of appr 60 euros (no surcharges if cab gets stuck in traffic).

You can easily buy weekly passes for Munich's public transport system. The only disadvantage (depending on your travel dates) is that this weekly tickets run strictly Mon-Sun. So if you buy one on a Thursday it is still only valid till next Sunday.
The fare structure for weekly or monthly tickets (called IsarCards) is slightly more complicated than for day passes or single tickets: each of the four fare zones is subdivided into four sub-zones, in total 16 sub-zones.

In your case, you need a weekly ticket for sub-zones 1-3 for €16.50
This ticket will not only let you go from the fairgrounds to Marienplatz but to almost any destination within the Munich city limits, e.g. Nymphenburg palace or the Pinakotheken /museums or Schwabing.
As buying the weekly tickets is a bit complicated you should get it from a staffed desk at Munich airport, central station or Messestadt West subway stop. Or at any kiosk or newsagent which sells tickets and shows the "MVV" logo/sticker.
