Oh, wow, what an honour to select the destination! I'd have to say Paris or Venice would be pretty good, but honestly, I'm sure she'd like anywhere!

I was happy with Rome overlooking the Forum at midnight-ish. But would have taken the Lucca though wasn't dressed for the occassion. But that is me. Pick what you think is special for you two. what strangers might like. Just my opinion. It will all be good.

Pick the place that most reminds you of her. Any where you choose will be perfect if the answer is to your liking.

I think somewhere off the beaten path in Venice, where there are only a few locals about, would be romantic. If it was me, I'd get away from all the tourist hordes. A friend proposed to his (now) wife on top of the Eiffel Tower and they are happily married years later. It doesn't matter where so much as if she says yes and it's right for both of you.

If you like being outdoors and beautiful scenery, maybe somewhere in Switzerland, half way through a day hike, when you stop for a picnic lunch?

Paris on the Pont des Arts...then place a lock on the fence to signify your love and toss the keys in the Seine. That's what we are doing to celebrate our 49th anniversary next month!

Our son did it at the top of the Eiffel Tower at night. Believe me, it has made a lasting impression!!
I would also vote for the Pont des Artes. I asked DS if he wanted some ideas before we went (we were there on a family trip) and he declined!!

I';m with kayF. off the beaten path in Venice, some little bridge where it is quiet - perhaps just at sunset... be sure to mark the spot well.... you may have a hard time finding it again.... but what a great anniversary adventure that couldbe....

First of all, congratulations. Marriage is a wonderful institution (if you don't mind being institutionalized).

Secondly, I'm with Kay and Seafox. Venice has long been the Gold Standard for this sort of thing. A candle-lit dinner on a quiet campo, lingering over a limoncello, the moon in her eyes... I don't know how you can beat that.

Urquhart castle on Loch Ness in Scotland. Hopefully the piper will be playing and there won't be many people around. Now that would be cool.

Pull over on the Ring of Kerry in Ireland, in some secluded place with the cliffs, the forest and sea behind you. There are a number of pull offs like this. If you do it right, make it just at sunset.

Chartres Cathedral in France, but only if it is a sunny day and they have finished with the reconstruction. Can't beat those blue stained glass windows.
