Prague to Karlstein by train
Thinking of a daytrip to the Castle town by train.
Most travel guides seem to indicate using Smichov station. However, I see the train goes through Hlavni first.
Isn't Hlavni more convenient to Old Town?

Most trains to Karlstejn leave from Smichov, and frequently, so that's why guidebooks say that. However, if one particular train you want leaves from Hlavni, that's fine.
It might be a little more convenient to Old Town, it's a bit closer. From some locations in Old Town, it won't make that much difference. For example, if you were right near the bridge or Staromestska metro stop, it would be just as easy to get to Smichov as Hlavni--you'd have to transfer once in either case. If you were near Mustek, you could get to Smichov without transferring, but not the main station.

My map didn't have a distance scale, bummer. Well, I think it is less than a mile, but 1 km or a bit more is probably about right. From the map, it seems about 8 blocks from the Old Town square itself. If you are at that location, the main train station is definitely closer for walking (and I wouldn't walk to Smichov).
