Prague Hotels
We are traveling with friends to Prague and they are staying at the U Tri Pstros. The rate we have been quoted is $232 for a double. Any suggestions for getting a better rate or are there any other decent hotels in the same area which aren't as pricey?

We were in Prague in Nov. and stayed at the Cloister Inn. We paid about $80/night for a king room. I was very happy with the hotel, staff and location. It's within walking distance of everything. It also has off street parking which I would highly recommend in Prague.

Check nethotels.com for hotels and event tickets. Also, www.avetravel.cz has good listings.

Hotels in Prague can be somewhat more expensive than you might expect, in comparison to other things like food, but that is really on the expensive end for Prague. There are many hotels less than that, even 4-star ones. Here is just one web site's specific page for that area (look for Mala Strana), you'll see half a dozen 4-star hotels, most priced less than that, I think, like the Red Lion (you'll see your pick at the bottom of the page for comparison info). US$200 would be about 7000CK, so look for prices less than that.

Have just gone through the hotel list for 3 nights in June. My experience is this: 1)Rooms in the higher end are hard to come by, and 2)Prices are up 10-15% over last year. Remember, this is summer - "high" season. There were a lot of "deals" during the winter months. It looks like "everybody" wants to go to Prague this year, yes, including me.
The Tri Pstrosu, or "Three Ostriches" was on my list, along with the Red Lion, Na Kampe, etc. All were full for my time slot.
The price of Prague seems to have gone up!

There was someone else on here, Leslie, who went there recently and I think she stayed at a hotel called House of Charles Bridge (or something?) that she found thru www.hotelsprague.cz at a very good rate. I am pretty sure she posted back and liked the place, maybe you could search for that post or give that URL a try.

Yes, I was in Prague in November and stayed at the House at the Charles Bridge also known as Na Kampe 15. I used the booking agent Accommodations On Line -- www.interacta.cz -- this booking agent was excellent, as was the hotel. But, I was in Prague in low season, so everything was a bargain. 2002 prices do seem about 10-20% higher at many of the hotels. Look into renting an apartment for your stay, as the prices seem reasonable.

As an FYI, many of the booking agents list the same hotel. Prices may vary from booking agent to booking agent, and also the hotel's rack rate may be different than the advertised rates of the booking agents. When you are told by one booking agent that a hotel is booked, don't accept this as gospel. If you are interested in a specific hotel, try another booking agent, or the hotel directly. Booking agents reserve blocks of rooms for potential guests, which gives the appearance that a hotel is booked for a specific date. If a hotel is booked, as the hotel what booking agents it uses.

The reason I mention this is that I was interested in a hotel in Budapest and when I contacted the hotel, I was told that all the rooms for that specific block of time were reserved by the booking agents. I then contacted two different booking agents for that specific hotel and was informed that rooms were available.

Also, there is no rhyme or reason as to who has the best rate (at least I found this out in both Prague and Budapest). Some of the booking agents mark up the hotel's rack rate and others mark down it down. It's all trial and error.

Here is my 2 cents worth. There are many many hotels in Prague. Stayed at 3 of them myself in past 2 years.
There are many price ranges out there and if you want to spend over a $100 you can do that. But if a hotel is in prague near the Vlata then you dont have a bad location as walking or Trolley is easy to all points.
Think of how much you stay in room on trip?
I pay about $50 in off season and up too $75 in regular season for my hotel i use. Some times i splurge and get the suite. It is only maybe $15 more a night.
For me? If it serves coffee, Tea, and drinks and has free decent breaskfast that is a big plus.
Anyways, shop around as to me there is no need to spend over $100 a night in Prague for a hotel.
Dan

I just returned from Prague today! I stayed at the Hotel Palace Praha. (Booked through hotelbook.com) It is a wonderful 5 star hotel, but is located on the edge of the old town. I believe the U Tri Pstros is on the other side of the river. Anyway, I got a deal and paid only 132 Euros per night for a beautiful king bed room! Watch out for those cabs in Prague!!!

I have just come back from the Hotel Pariz and we were dissappointed. Downstairs it is beautiful, but the rooms are definitely not worth the price. Tiny shower, bad light, tepid water after 8 pm., the heating was turned down at night, bad bed etc. And all that for $ 300.- low season!

Was just wondering if the reason so many people are going to Prague this coming year is because so many trips were cancelled right after the floods in August? We were there in early September and tourism was down 90%. That might also explain why hotel rates are up?

I used Travelcook for my hotel reservations when I visited Prague in October '02. I received complimentry car service from the airport to my hotel and one night free (I stayed a total of 7 nights) My rate for the Hotel Constans was $125 a night.

http://www.travelcook.com/English/

The Hotel Constans is located halfway between Charles Bridge and the Castle - near the US Embassy, which keeps car traffic to a minimum, for obvious reasons. The room was well furnished. Great location for exploring the Mala Strana and Castle area. About a 5-7 minute walk to the Bridge. My view looked over a construction pit that should be a garden in about 6 months - the upside is I got out and about.

www.hotelconstans.cz

If you want to be closer to the Bridge - try this place - should be reopening very soon.

http://www.certovka.cz/en_certovka.htm
