Prague: cost of living
Hi
Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of living in Prague please especially in comparison to the UK? I am especially interested in food / drink and if there is anything that is a specific bargain!
Thanks a lot
Cathy

Hi C,
I think that you will find that the costs of hotels in Prague will be close to that in London.
Restaurants will be about the same or less.
Orague has been discovered. I'm told that it is filled with visiting Brits.
Enjoy your visit.

Compared to the UK, Prague is dirt cheap. Pints of really good beer for 50p or less? How could anyone go wrong?
I have been there twice. The first time we stayed in an apartment in the old town for a week, and it was cheaper and more convenient than a hotel. The second time, we were in a hostel which was clean, well looked after, convenient, and very cheap.
We found food and beer to be ridiculously cheap everywhere except the very centre of the tourist areas. Public transport is also very very cheap and plentiful.
During my first holiday there, we ate out every night, drank almost constantly, travelled all over the city, saw all the major tourist sites, and I still took home change from £200 spending money.

I have found both hotels and food/drink to be cheaper in Prague than London. Hotels aren't as cheap as you might expect in comparison to food/drink, though. This is true for a lot of places, it seems to me, at least for a high quality hotel. As with any place, though, you can spend about what you want as there is a wide variety of pricing for both things. You can spend a lot on dinner in a top restaurant, but can spend a lot less if you want. For a few day visit, you aren't going to be exploring much outside the main city center, I imagine, where things cost more. You don't need to worry about spending more than the UK, in any case.

Although prices have gone up it certainly has to be a good deal cheaper than the UK! If you want to spend a lot you can but it is no problem at all to eat cheap and find reasonable priced hotels, getting around is relatively cheap.

Restaurants/bars/clubs and most everything else is much cheaper in Prague than in London. Hotels are less but not so much less - since there is still a shoartage of quality properties vs the number of tourists.

Food & drinks are cheaper in Prague. For $15 - $20, you can get a decent meal at a tourist restaurant. Much cheaper at a Czech place, or in a shopping mall foor court (like Flora). Hotels are not cheap, as the other posters have mentioned, but you can get apartments or rooms for less. Try "www.happyhouserentals.com" or other classifieds in the Prague Post, etc..

A recent promotion offers 4 star hotels in Prague at USD 99, 3 star at USD 79, so based on that 2 star and other hotels seem to fair favourable with other places in Europe and certainly a lot cheaper than many.

almost anything is cheaper than London!
When in prague last year i dined with a group of poms in a restaurant on the main square. It was a great meal and they had a few pints (let me tell you). Anyways if i recall right they said that it totalled to about 8 quid each.
