Positano vs Sorrento

Can anyone help me decide whether to stay in Positano or Sorrento? I know there are pros and cons to each but I can't figure out what to do.

Thanks for the help!

I vote for Sorrento. You have easy access to the train and hydrofoil for daytrips to Naples, Capris, and Pompeii.

Hi P,

>Can anyone help me decide whether to stay in Positano or Sorrento? <

What do you want to do when you are down there?

I agree with vivenleigh and vote for Sorrento for the same reasons. IMHO, Positano is most beautiful when seen from the water! In both places, you'll be navigating some hills but if you are planning side trips, Sorrento is the place to be.

If you just want to hang out I would go to Positano - if you want to sightsee the area, Sorrento is a better choice. Also Positano is VERY steep - but it is probably more charming than Sorrento.

How many days do you plan to spend in your location? When we went, we split our time: half in Ravello and half in Sorrento. If you don't mind changing hotels, we were able to minimize travel times this way.

Positano is wonderful! But if you really want a beautiful place to stay, I would recommend either Priano (stay at the Onda Verde Hotel)(this is half way between Amalfi and Positano and you can get a boat to Positano or Capri; or Amalfi (can't remember the name of my hotel offhand - at the top of the hill) but this is a charming little town and you can get a bus or boat from there.

. My husband and I preferred Positano over Sorrento. Positano is quieter, Sorrento we felt overwhelmed by the tour buses and groups. Positano you don't have the same feeling because it is hard to get around with a car and I believe tour buses don't go through the main part of the town. We had great access to visit Amalfi,Priano and Ravello. We also visited Capri from Positano our choice is Positano!,
