Positano to Capri by ferry in April?

A friend and I are traveling the Amalfi Coast in early April. We plan to spend several days in Positano, and then move on to Capri for several days. Does anyone know if we can get a ferry directly from Positano to Capri? The web sites I've looked at only have the current (December) schedules. How about from Capri to Naples? Thanks!

I know the Capri to Naples is not a problem. People live on Capri all year so there is service all year. Contact your hotel and ask about the Positano to Capri in April. I'm not sure if it starts in May. Otherwise you can take the bus to Sorrento and go from Sorrento to Capri without a problem.

Have you tried www.alilauro.it or www.navlib.it ? Sailings from the Amalfi coast will be very dependent on the weather - even in summer, they can be cancelled by rough seas. The only way to check is to enquire when you are in Positano; if nothing is running to Capri, then there are year-round services from Sorrento - try the above web sites, and www.caremar.it. Schedules for all local ships and fast craft are shown every day in the local daily newspaper, 'Il Mattino' which you will see on sale everywhere in the area.

Patricia,

We took the 10:30 boat from Amalfi to Capri. It was scheduled to stop in Positano, but the seas were so rough it went on directly to Capri.

That vessel is just that -- a boat, much smaller than the ferries that run from Capri to Naples. It was the roughest water trip I've ever had -- a real "green gills" experience.

It was my own fault, though. We knew that there was weather in the area, and one look at that boat should have warned us. I think if you pay attention to the weather and use more common sense than we did, you'll be okay.

The boats are hydrofoils and jet boats which are very light. Since they're fast, they skim across the water. Since hot mild weather is common in that area they work well. Periodically they get the bad weather and no......you don't want to be on them. We travel the aliscafi often and have had one bad experience.
