Portugal winter rental

I have decided that I might try Portugal instead of Spain for a month winter rental in apartment. I know the weather is not the greatest, that is why I thought I could find reasonable priced 1 bedroom apt. Everything I can find on web seems very expensive for Feb. or March. It does not have to be on beach but inland would be good. We would like a relaxing small town perhaps that we can rent a car and take day trips from. In the 1000.00 a month range. US currency. Has anyone found any gems out there.

I don't know how much the rental is in the winter, but in May is was about E65 per night. They may offer a special rate for long term stays.
It is on the coast in Lourinha. The name is Casal dos Patos. It is a small cottage on the owners property (they also run a b&b in their home.)

It is two bedroom, though with a large bathroom with a washer. You can take the train into Lisbon.

Anyway, we liked it.

My wife and I spent three weeks in Albufeira on the Algarve in March and we stayed at an aparthotel called the Orada. We were one of about 300 apartments in a huge and spacious complex and each apartment was beautifully appointed with a large kitchen and all the gadgets you would want. We booked through a travel agent and the cost for the apartment worked out at $56 Canadian or about $49US. per day. What a deal.

Thank you Sher and almcd for your replies. I will check into them. I would ideally like a small place not a high rise building. Something off the beaten track since we will have a car for the month.

The place you mention looks very nice. I cannot see any photos of it on the web, do you have a place to go to see photos. Did you see the bedrooms in B & B also or just the cottage. The cottage sounds reasonable.

Sher, sorry for contradicting you, but Lourinha doesn't have a train service. Closest train stations are Bombarral and Torres Vedras, which are 20 or 30 km far.

We stayed at the Vilabranca Apartments in Lagos. They are inland, but not far from the beach (we had a view of the beach from our balcony).

The service was impeccable and the apartment spotless. I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to others.

Lyban. There is a website which I cannot find at the moment just for the property.
But if you look at Nancy's Portugal under where to stay and Costa de Prata it is listed: Casal dos Patos.
Pictures 9-13 on the box you bring up shows pictures of the cottage.
The property pictures are just about what the setting is, rather spectacular, we thought. There are steps just outside from of the cottage gatethat go directly on to the beach.

lobo_mau. Sorry. The owner told us you could take a train directly in to Lisbon. We didn't try as we had a car, but I thought her information would be accurate.

If I find the direct web page, I will post it.

Lyban. Duh! It is
www.casaldospatos.online.pt

It is run by a German couple, perfect English.

We did not see the bedrooms in the B&B. The cottage is within the property line, which is fenced in, but far enough away to seem like it is by itself.

They have a lot of tv channels but I have to tell you that they are mostly in German.

We thought it was very comfortable. Parking for your car is on the street right outside the gate to the cottage.

We drove to Obidos, Nazare, Tomar, Fatima, and many more places from there. There is an Intermarche in the town, but there are mostly small restaurants.

You really need a car.

Good luck.

Hi,
We have English friends who live in Portugal, check out their website as they have a great place and will certainly discuss terms for a long winter let. We are out there again later this month.. cant wait!!
