Portoghesi vs Modigliani

Hello we are planning or first trip to Rome and was wondering if anyone has stayed in either one of the above mentioned hotels. Either the Portoghesi or the Modigliani.
Out of the 2 does anyone have a preference. Thankyou.

We stayed at the Portoghesi in June and have reservations for next June. Nice hotel. Pretty rooftop breakfast room. GREAT location. Can't go wrong....

And another Portoghesi fan. I think I've stayed 3 times...

Really great location, nicely layed out rooms, if small like most European rooms, great bathrooms, great towels and sheets.

Love the coffee.

I have stayed at the Modigliani. The location was fine and the rooms were well appointed, though a bit on the small side. Staff was great and prices were so reasonable. I would stay again but wouldn't insist on it.

As a fan of the Piazza Navona/Pantheon/Campo de Fiori area as opposed to the Spanish Steps area, my vote would go to the Portoghesi.

Thanks everyone, sorry one more thing. I heard the B& B the Nicolas Inn was nice , I received an email back from them 20 minutes after I wrote. It is 160.00 per night for a triple. Has anyone ever heard of this or stayed here. Thanks again.

I think there's masses of information here about the Nicolas Inn. Try putting the name in the Search Box; you should get quite a few threads.

I know there are lots of positive posts about the Nicholas Inn but I'm not sure the location is as great as the Portoghesi. As for the Portoghesi's bathrooms, the above statement is a bit of an overstatement. They are not great, they are tiny. Our friends had a room that was almost identical to ours but their shower was, bar none, the smallest shower I have ever seen. You literally had to step out to turn around and they are not big people. Ours was a bit bigger than theirs but still tiny. That said we really liked the Portoghesi!
