What would Portofino be like in the third week of October? Will it be too quiet and shut down? Will the weather have turned cold and rainy?

October is the rainiest month there. My friends went in October and it rained every day. -- torrential downpours with high winds. Miserable. They were at the Splendido and spent a lot of time at the bar. Then they drove up the coast to Eze, hoping for a change. No such luck. More rain and wind. They wound up cutting their vacation short by a week and flying home to New Jersey. of course, no one can predict the weather. It could be perfect the week you are there!

Actually, Nov. has the highest average rainfall. You are getting a bit late by then but you should be fine.

It will probably be quiet. If it's a weekend with good weather, things will pick up. Are you staying there for a whole week?

We spent several days there 2years ago. Pretty rainy chilly weather and yes a lot of the stores and restaurants were closed. However, the ones that were open were very happy to have us and there were no crowds to fight.

Thanks for your responses. I thought it was a little late to see Portofino at its best. We'll stay in Positano instead. Your help is appreciated.
