The road out is often very crowded during season, but a nice lunch in SML is a wonderful alternative.

Sorry, Santa Margherita Ligure---the beautiful resort town 3 miles before you get to Portofino.

I think the place I remember is Delfino--on the right side if you are standing on the shore looking out into the harbor. They had a wonderful ligurian pesto pasta with green beans and potatoes. If it's not Delfino, it's something very close to that and on the right side, facing the harbor. Be careful of prices. We sat on the other side and ordered a bellini, which came with a 25 euro price tag. Worth it, but not if you have to spend all of the lunch money to get it.

We had lunch at "Spendido Mare" right on the harbor. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? A million times yes!

As you are looking at the harbor, it would be on the back left side.
