Please Help Me Fax France
I'm trying to make reservations to La Chaumiere in Nice and I really can't call right now (at the office). Plus this is frustrating me so much that I feel I just *have* to figure it out or I'll go crazy. It's a matter of pride at this point.
OK, their fax# is (right from their website):
04.93.76.93.88
I know to leave the 0 off at the front, but I also have to dial 011 and then 33 right? And from my office, we have to dial 9 to get an outside line, then 1 + area code.
So I've tried so far -
9 + 1 + 011 + 33 + 4.93.76.93.88
9 + 011 + 33 + 4.93.76.93.88
Neither has worked.
What am I doing wrong?

you aren't actually using the . between the pairs of digits are you?
my office uses 9 for local outgoing and 8 for long-distance; not the same at your office?
if all else fails, go by Kinko's and fax it...probably costs about $4

At a guess the problem is that your office for some strange reason doesn't allow international calls
Anyhow to quote
<<< To call France from North America, dial 011, then 33 (the country code for France), the area code, and the eight-digit number. Although French area codes are two digits (the first digit is always a 0), you do not dial the zero when calling from abroad. >>>

So it should be 9 011 33 4.93.76.93.88

Your experience sounds just like what happened to me last year. I finally decided to stay up late and call when the rates are cheaper. Saved a ton of frustration, I tried every combination and the FAX would not go through. I found out when I called that they had the machine off. Sometimes, even the right way is wrong. Just start your call right with a "Bon Jour, parlez vous anglais? Use as much French as you can, and the conversation will rapidly turn to English.

Wait a minute -- there are so many places called "La Chaumière" -- I almost got tricked into some different numbers. What is the exact address of the place you want to go?
"La Chaumière" merely means "the thatched cottage" hence the numerous duplications of the name....

Glad it worked for you, but that isn't always true. You need to dial 9 to get an outside line on my office FAX, also, and I still need to dial 9 when sending an international FAX, because I've done it several times. YOu always have to dial 9 on my office phones or FAX to get anywhere outside the building.

There is more than one La Chaumiere in Nice? I thought I specified it was that one. I did find another one in Paris, one in Lyons, CO, and one in Wash DC.
Anyway here is the website - I want to go based on recommendations from Weadles amongst others - it sounds fabulous.

As you can see their website is woefully lacking in info!!
