The Puerta del Sol is still partially under construction - the eastern 30% under the Tío Pepe sign. You can sometimes catch a glimpse of it on the Puerta del Sol webcam (listed as "Mayor" as in "Calle Mayor&quot if the angle is right. It's at http://www.TraficoMadrid.com .

aireslibre,
I was in Madrid last week & the Puerta del Sol has some construction. But nothing that gets in the way of walking around.

There is lots to do in Madrid. I really loved the city. What are you interests?

My favorite thing to do was to just walk around. A good walk was from Plaza Mayor to Puerta del Sol, up to Plaza de Espana, then down the Gran Via. I also loved just relaxing in Retiro Park. If you like museums, I would vote for the Thyssen over the Prado, but that's just me.

Thank you for your response. I am in Madrid for one full day before catching an early morning flight to Rome. I plan on going to the Prado Museum but other than that I am pretty open to anything. What do you recommend?
