Planning for Ephesus and Kas/Myra
Hello,
We'll be departing for Turkey on May 12th. After a few days in Istanbul, we'd like to go to Ephesus (Selçuk) for 2-3 days, and then on to Kas, Kale, and Myra further to the south. We're planning on leaving Istanbul for Ephesus on the 17th, and returning to Istanbul on the 24th, giving us 6 full days to explore the two areas.
My question is, should I rent a car in Izmir (where we're flying into for Ephesus) and drive from there to Kas and back for our return to Istanbul, or would it be better to fly from Izmir to Dalaman or Antalya to continue or travels in the south?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
rent a car in Izmir then drive to Selcuk and to South of Turkey on the coast. You will love it. Drive to Antalya then leave car at Airport fly back to Istanbul. There are lots of places to see and SWIM
Have a nice trip in Turkey

Hi Madscribe;
You can not fly direct from Izmir to Dalaman. Only Sun Express flies direct from Izmir to Antalya as far as I know.
Hiring a car is much better. Roads are fine, scenery is nice and lots of places to stop and enjoy on the way. Once you reach Antalya you can fly back Istanbul. If you are close to dalaman than also returning from Dalaman to Istanbul is easier and saves time & money.
I am travelling the same route at the moment with one difference I will be driving further to Cappadocia from Antalya. Weather is perfect and spring is there.......
Happy Travelling, Enjoy Turkey

Thank you Murat and Sinan for your responses. I'll be flying into Izmir, and renting a car for the drive to Selcuk, and then on to Olu Deniz and the surroundsing area for a few days, then dropping the car of at Dalaman for the flight back to Istanbul.
I very much looking forward to the trip

Very helpful. We anticipate being in Turkey this July; we actually head home the day before elections. My wife is nervous espcially after the march in Izmir last week.
While we have thought of modifying our schedule at this point we are open. We fly into Izmir and have scheduled the last four days in Istanbul. Have 5 days in between. An option is to drive along the Med Coast and possibly into Cappadocia. Is driving really safe? Does it more closely resemble driving in Italy or Germany? Other options for spending the days are appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
