Places to eat in Trastevere (Rome)
Any good suggestions for good places to eat in Trastevere? Going in late December. Like local places with really good food. Doesn't need to be fancy, just good Italian, but we are open to fusion, trendy as well.
Thanks.
Thanks.

We loved Dar Poeta, a great pizza place! My hubby's favourite anywhere. Www.darpoeta.com I think, it is on Vicolo del Bologna, 45

Run don't walk to one of the best restaurants that you will ever eat at in Rome or in Italy. I work as an international flight attendant with a major US airline and discovered this gem years ago and it seriously is one of the reasons that I bid Rome layovers so I can enjoy this fabulous food!
The restaurant is called: ALLE FRATTE di TRASTEVERE located on 49-50 Via delle Fratte di Trastevere. It is rated EXTREMELY high on tripadvisor.com so check it out. It is now a Fodors pick and was also reviewed very favorably in the NY Times.
I found this restaurant while wandering on my own one day in Rome.I was looking for someplace to eat earlier than 730pm as we had crew pickup very early the next morning. They are open on Mondays and closed on Wednesdays-open for lunch and dinner and usually start dinner by 6pm.
The owner of this restaurant is a wonderful Italian woman who does the majority of the receipes and her husband. Her son,Rick lived with his dad(her first husband) in NYC for many years before coming back to help her run the restaurant with his sister. Everyone speaks English so can help with any of your questions.
The restaurant has many fabulous dishes but my favorite (along with everyone who has ever gone there with me) is the ravioli that is stuffed with ricotta cheese and then covered in an out of this world white cream sauce(not alfredo) then sprinkled with a special sausage from a Tuscany farm on top- only 9 euros.OMG!
They have wonderful pizzas, terrific fresh seafood (love the grilled seafood platter and the calamari)among other choices too.The mushroom bruschetta(2.5 euros) is fabulous along with the caprese salad and the grilled veggies. House wine can be in a liter carafe for 8 euros or house wine in a bottle for 10 euros-all are quite tasty. The desserts include the BEST tiramasu and a limoncello cake that is to die for!
It is not unusual for people who eat there once on their vacations to come back several times as you realize how great the food is and how reasonable.
I was just in Rome last month for a short vacation with my daughter and we ate there many times in just a few days. One couple told me that they ended up eating there 4 times in 5 days as the whole family agreed that the menu had so many offerings and the food was so tasty.
How to get there if you are in the center of Rome-If you are taking the tram from Largo Argentino (cat sanctuary tram area) it is the second stop over the Tiber. Walk back a block and a half to the street with the green pharmacy sign, take a left on Via Delle Fratte de Trastevere and its on the right about 100 meters.
Word of warning-NEVER eat at any restaurant in many languages, has pictures of the food or is near major tourist areas as they are the biggest ripoffs-just saying.....Have a great time in Roma!
(And no I am not paid to love Alle Fratte!)
Short story-My last Rome trip for work, I took two other crew members over there as it is far from where we stay in Rome. I ordered my usual but one of the girls was suspect about my faves on the menu. She agreed to order the ravioli because I refused to share mine. After she finished her ravioli, she literally was trying to take her finger to wipe all the rest of the sauce off the plate and then proceeded to order another order of ravioli "to go" to eat on our flight back home to the states! Enough rambling...

We had delicious food at La Gensola, probably the best I've had in Trastevere, but the service was abysmal and prices were high-ish. It's an inventive Italian seafood menu. We had 3 courses each and no booze or coffee. Total was about 120 euro.

I'm bookmarking dutyfree's suggestion for when I go back to Rome in October.
I agree with Dar Poeta, with the proviso that is was crowded, frenetic and cramped (and worth it all for the pizza).
Otherwise I very much enjoyed Capo de Fero (Via di San Cosimato)
and the nearby Ai Spaghettari.
