PDA charger for airplane? ...
Hi Rob and others. We have a Palm Tungsten C. My husband asked me to ask this question. He has no idea of where to look for a charger for the airplane.(or if there is such a thing...)
Thanks

If there is an automotive (cigarette lighter type) charger available for it, you can just add an aircraft power adapter (converts aircraft power plug to cigarette lighter type outlet).

Check the airline's website to see what type of power port they have in your seat, if any. There are at least three types:
- standard wall-socket 110v. Just bring your regular charger;
- cigarette lighter type 12v, like topcat is talking about;
- Empower, a different 12v plug. That you can buy a cheap Empower-to-cigarette lighter plug and then follow topcat's advice.

seatguru.com has answers for you.
No power port on Jetblue.
AA is one of the best domestic airlines in terms of power. Many of the seats on their MD-80 have power ports; selected seats on their 737s and 757s.
Internationally, again selected seats in economy - meaning front rows and a few in the back - on their 777s and 767s.
AA gives you 12v cigarette lighter socket. Exceptions are the MD-80 and 757 that they inherited from TWA, which doesn't have powerports.

I'm not sure it is as simple as plugging in. Many of these devices have different power requirements, and there are stores that are full of various models for various devices.
I would start by going to the website of the company that made your device and see if they have an airline power adapter.
If they don't, try an internet search for "airline power adapter" and the name of your device. You will find sites that specialize in these. Alas, coverage is not complete, and some people have to resort to buying an airline adapter that converts to 110, and plugging their charger into that.
Also, I've read that some airlines frown on recharging, as they view it as a potential fire hazard.

One of the iPAQ design's most endearing features is that it has a field-replaceable battery, and the cradle has a space to charge the spare at the same time that the PPC itself is charging.
I charge both before going out. I have to swap in the spare after about five hours of constant use of the backlight (as on a flight), but I have never had to stop doing anything because of a depleted battery.
Plugging a $500 computer into an airplane's electrical system is a pretty high-stakes crapshoot.

I'd be reluctant to buy anything in the inflight shops; talk about a captive clientele.
My experience is that fron cabin seats are almost always wired, but only a fraction of the rear cabin seats have the power ports. Seatguru shows what seats have ports, and that is certainly something to consider when choosing your seat.
A second fully charged battery is certainly a good option. I have one for my camera and while I never have needed it, it is a comfort knowing that it is there.
And while some airlines may prohibit recharging, I have seen hundreds if not thousands of digital devices plugged into the power ports, and I doubt the flight attendants are knowledgeable enough to determine when you are recharging.

You can find cigaratte lighter-to-laptop converter cable at plenty of stores, online or offline, for much less than $20.
Empower adapters are harder to find, but do a search on google and you can find online stores that sell Empower-to-cigarette lighter cables for <$20. There's also a Empower-to-Apple Powerbook adapter cable out there.
Absolutely no reason to spend $100 on such adapter.
