Passport + German Pass

I bought German Twin Flexi Passes for our next trip to Germany. Except first time when we shall use this pass (and we have to validate it), must we to have always with us our passports, or a copy is enough?

Leave your passport in the hotel safe (or room safe) and carry a photo copy with you. You will probably never even need it, but carry the copy anyway.

Technically you must have the passport if asked - a copy may fly maybe not - you'll rarely be asked but anyway i always want to have my passport with me - always - i never leave it in the htoel desk unless they insist on it.

Make a wallet size copy of the first 2 pages of your passport, back-to-back, and laminate it. You will find this very helpful. Only place the officials would not accept this was here in the US, at the Motor Vehicle License Bureau, as second picture ID.
