At least an SNCF site finally got some relatively clear information about this on line. As of yesterday, the RATP site still had no real explanation, even in French.

It seems they have extended the purchase period to Thursday (formerly was Wednesday).

Kerouac - apologies if this is a stupid question, but can Navigo cards also be used to rent Velib bicycles?

That did run through my mind, slangevar, but as far as I know, they have still not found a way around the obstacle of the 150€ rental guarantee; that obviously comes out of one's credit card, not one's Navigo. It is still perfectly possible for a non-smartcard holder to subscribe the one year offer for 29€, but there is no way to get the immediate gratification of the 1-day or 1-week rental.

This said, I have made 5 lovely Vélib trips so far today....

(Oh, and anyway, the Navigo is only used to get the bikes if you have a 1-year subscription. For the other options, you get a paper ticket with a code on it.)

That was kind of what I figured, but I knew you would know best. I have to admit, I do have Velib envy watching everyone ride around town (until one of them falls, which I most certainly would).

Thanks again, Kerouac!
