Parisian cabaret???
i m going to Paris in January and i would like to visit one out of the many famous cabarets in Monmartre.. the problem is, Im not sure if I make the right choice.. I ve read and heard about many of them, but I cant decide which is the best for me. Furthermore, as I noticed the prices in a lot of these cabarets are so expensive that I think i couldnt afford that. Is there anybody who can help me with that , and tell me which of these places has quality show and low prices?? i dont want to spend 100 euros (or maybe more) just to visit Moylin Rooge. any other cheaper -but also good - suggestion???
thank you !!!!

I guess it depends what your standards are and what you expect as to what would be called quality. Now I think there are definitely a lot of no-name cheaper caberets in Paris that are not going to be at all the quality of the name ones, but you can expect that. The name ones are Lido, Moulin Rouge, Folies Bergere, Crazy Horse. They are expensive, that is what they are for -- to make a lot of money off tourists. Those shows aren't that cheap to produce, I imagine, they are like Las Vegas, if you've been there. I think the Lido is the glitziest most Vegasy one (and good location on the Champs-Elysees), Crazy Horse more sexual, Moulin Rouge a good basic famous one with good costumes.
I think they all cost around 100 euro for the show without dinner, nothing you can do about that. You can look for discounts, but if you want to go, that's what it costs. The later shows are a little cheaper.

I don't know what kind of show you want to see, but if it is a Las Vegas type of review you are after I would advise against the Lapin Agile. We thought it a rip off. The entertainment was not at all the sort of review you seem to be talking about, but a few mediocre folks pretending to be Picasso's crowd, singing old French songs around a table and trying to get the audience to join in.
We much more enjoyed the show at Aux Trois Maillets. http://i.imgur.com/1SuqV.gif They have a piano bar upstairs and a high energy show that starts in the cellar at around 11:00 and lasts until 5:00 in the morning, with people dancing on the tables and really happy vibes.

There are not that many cabarets in Paris -- probably less than 10. Besides the Lapin Agile, there is Don Camilo, the Caveau de la République, La Belle Epoque, Chez Ma Cousine, Brasil Tropical... The best bet is to buy Pariscope at any newsstand and go through the listings. It comes out on Wednesday and costs 0.40€.

OK, I really apreciate your suggestions...!!!
what's the price of aux trois maillets?? i checked the website, but unfortunately i don't speak french...!
so i cant get any useful information from that..
Besides cabarets is there any other option you could recommend me?? any jazz club or nice pub, bar? you know, its the second time I visit Paris and if its not for a famous cabaret in monmartre (or something like that), i dont want to spend my night in something entirely touristic...

Not sure what you mean by cabaret - but IMHO these places are infamous - not famous. They are more "spectaculars" - with lots of mostly nude show girls parading around, with some feeble music interspersed.
Cannot think of a worse use of your money.
Why not go to a jazz club or similar - which is really for the locals - rather than toursts who don;t know any better.

There are jazz clubs and great bars all over Paris that are typically Parisian and not just venues for tourists with deep pockets who want to mimic some Las Vegas experience. Google jazz clubs Paris and find yourself some local place that is where Parisians go for evening entertainment. The "cabarets' ( and I agree that the Moulin Rouge and those others aren't even cabarets) are strictly overpriced venues for tourists who are duped into thinking this is something typical of Paris. They aren't. They are also grossly overpriced and the food stinks.
I do like Au Lapin Agile, but I know lots of old French drinking songs, was a performer in a previous life, and appreciate the history.
