Paris caberet worth it?
It's our first time to Paris and our friends have mixed opinions about the cabaret. It seems pricey, so is it worth it? And if so, is Moulin Rouge the best one? (That's the only one I have heard of). We would prefer a non-tourist one if possible.

but the 'cabarets' are ALL for tourists...it's a stage production for entertainment's sake, and a bit of the old 'can-can' for a historic reference. If you like those kind of song/dance productions, then go..! (I'd wager most everyone has gone to at least one). But you surely can't expect that there won't be other tourists there.

I liked the Moulin Rouge's show which is a variety show and not a striptease show nor a Vegas type of show as many people (mostly those who haven't seen the show) seem to think. It wasn't a choice I would have made initially, but I was accompanying my traveling companion who wanted to see it. I won't be returning but I just wanted to say it was a good show, but the dinner was not worth it. Not sure what anyone really means by asking if the show is worth it as this is subjective. For me it was 'worth it' as far as being an entertaining show.

No one can tell you if it is worth it to you. YOu really have to know what kind of entertainment you like, and how important that much money means to you. You do know these are sort of showgirl/variety shows, don't you? Well, if you like that kind of thing, I think you will enjoy it, and I think Moulin Rouge may be the best in general -- I've read they do hve a lot of spectacular costumes. Some of the others have slightly different foci (ie, Lido is more laser-y glitzy Vegas-type show, Moulin Rouge has the traditional cancan thing, Crazy Horse is more sexual and not like the others). there are a few more, one in the Latin Qtr is often touted as the most "French" (Paradis Latin), but it's still that kind of show.
I think people refer to Moulin Rouge as Vegasy because of the showgirls, and that's basically where you find that kind of show in the US. I've been to a Vegas show and it was a variety show, also.
All of these shows are for tourists, even if French tourists. It's like Las Vegas shows -- they are all for visitors, you wouldn't ask for a Las Vegas show that wasn't touristy. that's what this kind of entertainment is all about.

I saw the Moulin Rouge show a week ago and highly recommend it. Expensive, yes, as prices for the dinner and champagne show range from 140 to 170E per person. Less for just the show, I think. The food and service beats what one gets at a convention for dinner
PS we took the metro back to the 7th at about 11pm and it was not an issue.
