Ever since the fatal car crash in an underpass under the Pont de l'Alma (i believe) the area above the underpass had become an impromptu Princess Di (and Dodi) memorial, where folks left innmerable flowers and notes, either on paper or scrawled on the pavement and existing Herald-Tribune memorial there.
This lasted for several years but last December i noticed that the area had been cleared out, with just a few graffitied notes there. Apparently Parisian officials decided to snuff out the memorial and i wonder why?
Or is it back now that warmer weather and more tourists are coming - or has the hoopla died off? Any updates would be appreciated.

I wonder why it took several years to act - i guess waiting for the adoration, completely mistaken in my opinion - here's mother with two kids running around to clubs late at night - to die down. And in a visit to Pere Lachaise cemetery last December also saw the Jim Morrison tomb nearly litter and graffiti free - again after years of awful desecration of neighbording tombs.

Perahps they cleaned up the Di thing when they realized they could never charge admission to it.

We visited the site several years ago and I thought that the written tributes were rather touching.

Perhaps the Paris mairie has decided that the official memorials are sufficient?

I thought it was really tacky and trashy, also. She wasn't French, it was very inappropriate to have such a tribute to her on public property. I didn't particularly admire her in any way and thought the idolization bizarre for someone who spent her time the way she did and kept the company she did.

After reading this, If I should happen to die in a car wreck I hope it's not in Paris!
