I always return to the building in which I lived as a student in Paris so that I can be seventeen again for awhile!

I have been to Paris 11 times at last count. Why do I go back to Paris when in France? The answer is simple: Paris is history, culture, beauty and timelessness all rolled into one. The best of France in one place. As I live in NYC, Paris has a big city aura which is familiar but still manages to be allure me because of it's human scale: easy to get around.

I have no set itinerary when I reach Paris, which is always toward the end of my stay in France. 3 or 4 days in Paris, while not the crown jewel in my trip, really makes me appreciate and reinforces my belief that France truly is the finest European country to visit.

Vanne,

Two places, Montmartre - chez eugene for their hot ham&cheese, the steps, and Sacre Couer. The Rue Cler market.

- that first sweet, milky café crème of the trip, savoring every sip in an outdoor seat at a café
- Musée Rodin and the way the light hits the marble
- the rooftop at La Samaritaine, when it was open
- a tiny chocolatier on rue St. Sabin near the Bastille, more for the tradition (dating back to my student days) than for the chocolate itself...
- and now I'll be able to add L'Orangerie back into my repertoire!

Places des Vosges and its area. Since I arrive at Gare de Lyon, it's an easy walking distance via Place Bastille.

Also Avenue de Breteuil around sunset or after dinner in 7em, walking on the grass, toward the illuminated Hôtel des Invalides. On the grass, in warm weather, I see many youth doing picnic at night.
