Doesn't matter where you can buy it or whether you should use a machine because YOU SHOULD NOT BUY ONE!!! It is a rip-off, nothing more than a bundle of tickets that can easily be bought for a lot less money thrown into an envelope by someone who wants to fool tourists into thinking it's useful. Not only is it way overpriced, a good percentage of its offerings are of absolutely zero interest to 99% of people.

Get a Museum Pass if you'll be visiting museums. Get appropriate métro and RER tickets (there may be a transportation pass that's a good deal for you, but it depends on the days of the week you'll be traveling).

StCirq - are you possibly confusing the Paris Pass with a Paris Visite Pass? Not that the Paris Visite is a particularly good deal, it is usually not; but the Paris Visite is not a bundle of tickets and might have merit for a few select uses. I have never seen any scenario where purchasing a Paris Pass made any sense.

fairy - the best way to approach transportation solutions for Paris is to tell us the day you arrive (I might assume 8 May at ORY), the day you leave (I assume from ORY), where you are staying (central Paris is a sufficient response), where you want to go outside of central Paris (Disney apparently), the number of people traveling and the ages of any children traveling with you.

The Paris Pass does offer a 20% discount on admission (you choose which one) but there are other offers as well which may be much more advantageous such as those available through FNAC.

Sarastro, I thought I read somewhere recently that the Paris Pass was just what the PVP was called these days. I'll have to go look up the difference now.

I believe the Paris Visite and Paris Pass are the same thing. If you google Paris Visite you're directed to parispass.com. The home pages for both are identical.

This is the home page for the Paris Visite:

www.ratp.fr

It is a pass sold by the RATP targeted towards tourists. Confusion might arise because the Paris Pass, and I do not know who is responsible for it, includes among other things a zone 1-3 Paris Visite pass.

The Paris Pass is an overpriced collection of individually available tickets and passes. It should be avoided completely.

Sarastro - it wasn't easy to find on the ratp site. You can't search for Paris Visite or Visite so you'd have to know how to get the information.

When you go to the page with the Paris Visite information, the first thing you see is "There is no English translation for the content you're about to read". If you're astute enough to scroll down you can find the Paris Visite information and click on the ticket symbol and then get some information in English.

RATP needs to make this more user friendly and to allow search engines to find the PV specs.

Sorry adrienne. Here is the Paris Visite description in English:

http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/r_94834/parisvisite/

Effectively however, it is rarely a good value and have only recommended it to others for its pricing for children 12 and under. Adults would rarely want a Paris Visite Pass. Another possible PV advantage is that it includes the Antony rail connection from ORY that none of the other pass options includes which is one of the reasons I asked fairy for a complete itinerary.

They are not the same thing, I don't know why anyone thinks that. Right on the front page of the Paris Pass website it says one of the things it includes is the Paris Visite, which is a travel card.

Sarastro - I did find the information but my point was that most people will stop looking when they see the message about no English translation. And, google directs people to the Paris Pass site, not RATP.

Anyway, we've lost sight of the OP's questions. I've never purchased a pass so cannot give an answer.

oh, if you want to know what it is, other than on RATP, it is also described on the Paris Tourist Information website
http://en.parisinfo.com/transports/107175/Paris-visite

In fact, if you just google Paris Visite, the main website that comes up is the one Sarastro shows which is in English. It is really not difficult at all to find out what it is.

Get a Museum Pass if you'll be visiting museums>

agree with all that St-Cirq says - and about the Museum Pass, bought at any participating museum and giving preferential entry at many, like Louvre - but keep in mind Sundays many museums are half off (Louvre free I think first Sunday of month and then very mobbed! Some museums and sites covered are closed Monday (Versailles) and Tuesday (Louvre).
