Paris Restaurants

I just arrived in Paris and could use some help with restaurant selections. I am here until Monday morning and staying the the 7th (rue Grenelle & rue La Tour Maubourg).
My hotel will make reservations. Do I need them?

Last night we walked around the corner from the hotel to Les Anges. We had no problem getting a table. The food and service were excellent, but I might like to try some cozier places.

Thanks for any suggestions you might offer.

Hi - I just stayed in that area last week. We ate at La Source which I think is on the corner you are talking about. I thought the food was good and we were both happy with our selection. I think we paid about 75 euro for 2 (starter, entree, dessert) but we were there for quite awhile and had 2 bottles of wine.

A block or so away was Pasco. You may need reservations. This was more expensive, closer to 90 I think for starter and entree. The food here was very good and we were both happy with our meals. I don't know if we were there on an "off" night but we had terrible service. People around us were being attended to but not us. Most of the patrons were speaking French but we were not. We weren't sure if that was the cause of poor service or not. We did not leave the extra tip.

My caveat is that we are both easy to please. Neither of us are "foodies" but do enjoy a good, relaxing meal with a nice bottle of wine.

Have fun!

No specific suggestions but if you go to www.reservethebest.com you will be able to find lots of restaurants in various arr. with different price points and food types. Pictures of restaurants and examples of menus are also available on the site.

In the 7th, don't miss Fontaine de Mars. When my husband and I ate there in January, it was one of our best meals in Paris. I've also heard great things about (but haven't tried) L'Epi Dupin, Au Bon Acceuil, Bistro de Breteuil, Pizza Tina (near the Ecole Militaire metro), and Le P'Tit Troquet.

If you care to venture outside the 7th, into the 6th, you really should try Bistrot d'Opio (also sometimes called Bastide d'Opio). We ate there *twice* on our last visit to Paris, and everything they served was to die for.

We spent around 75 Euros for delicious multi-course meals at each place, including wine.

Here are a few of the other places I tried:

The best meal we had was at La Closerie des Lilas (171, bd du Montparnasse). The restaurant was beautiful inside and the food was so wonderful. It was a great overall experience.

A close second was Fish (rue de Seine in the 6th). Wonderful seafood but also meat and vegetarian dishes.

Pizza Vesuvio (1 r Gozlin in the 6th) was a great change of pace. The pizza was delicious.

I'm sure you'll have no problem finding great meals!

Thanks all.

We just walked past Fontain du Mars on the way back to our hotel from the Eiffel Tower. It sounds great and best of all it's close by on a day when I am pretty worn out. I think we will give it a try tonight.

I checked out the reserve the best site. There are some restaurnts for the 7th and a lot more for other areas. I'll give it a better look tomorrow. It would be nice to be able to make reservations on-line.

La Source is right on the corner.
We'll try it too before we leave.

Thanks again everyone. I should have enough suggestions for the next several nights.

I found this in another post but didn't know how to link the whole thread so I just cut and pasted the post. Might be helpful...

I'd like to recommend a restaurant on rue St Dominique to all the American visitors who seem to stroll this area. Les Fables des Fontaines is Christian Constants mid-range restaurant (he has three on this street)& specialises in seafood. Its at the beggining of rue St Dom in that little half-courtyard with the fountain (its opposite Le Fontaine de Mars restaurant). It serves superb, light seafood - not trad French (what a relief!!) - a gorgeous gazpacho + crab or fish morsels for starter, lots of choices for mains including fresh langoustines - great service.

Le Bistrot du 7eme is near your hotel and probably offers the best price/quality ratio in the area. Very popular with locals so please reserve.

Reading this post before our trip I'd had noted Fontaine De Mars and so made reservations. Big mistake! Clue #1 should have been when they asked if we wanted the English or French menu. It obviously caters to Americans since every table around us was speaking English. Feeling festive we took them up on a glass of champagne, yuck! 14 euros for what was the equivalent to Cooks Champagne. The food wasn't awful but rather bland not anything special. The worst part was that they were clearly planning on more than one seating in the evening so we were rushed through the dinner. Very un-French. The sad part is that across the courtyard is Les Fables de la Fontaine that truely is a wonderful restaurant. Make sure you don't mistake one for the other.
