4 of us will be travelling to Sicily in Nov. We will be arriving from Naples. Question is...should we fly into Palermo and finish in Taormina or vise versa?? We will be renting a car. Itinerary thus far: Palermo 2nights, Agrigento 1 night, Taormina 2-3nights (day trip to Siracusa, Mt. Etna). We will day trip to Monreale from Palermo, possibly Erice if weather is good. Stop in Seliunte en route to Agrigento. Stop in Piazza Armerina and Enna en route to Taormina. Suggestions? Thanks!

thats. funny. i did almost this exact itinerary a year ago this month. I think its easier to start in Palermo Airport cause all the renatal cars are there.
We went form the airport to Erice (1 night) drove to Selininte and Segesta the next day on route to Agrigento (1 night). next day did the temples and drove to Piazza Armnia on route to Taormina (3 nights). From there we took day trip to Etna and Syracusa. The final day was spent driving back to Palermo to return the car and catch the ferry to Naples. it took alllllll ddat to drive back BUT i did take the scenic route.
My suggestion.... i loved my itinerary (im biast) saw the whole isl except Palermo. It really worked out. Since the airport is East of Palermo anyway. why not start in Erice ( 1 hr drive from airport) and circumnavigate counter clockwise.

Kimberlina, would love to hear more about your trip since it so resembles what we will be doing! What worked, what didn't. Where you stayed, etc. How was the driving? Was Siracusa a nice day trip from Taormina or is it worth an overnight stay? Any further info would be greatly appreciated!

Let the air schedules dictate for you. We did Taormina first[ Catania] and dropped the car in Palermo.

We took a similar trip a couple years ago except we took the overnight ferry from Naples to Palermo. Our last stop was Taormina. From there we dropped the car off in Catania then flew from there back to Rome.

We followed a route similar to Kimberlina which worked great for us.

Our route:
1) sleep in Castellammare del Golfo
2) visit Erice, Segesta, sleep in Selinunte
3) Visit Selinente and Agregiento, sleep in Agrigento
4) visit Villa del Cassale, Caltagirone, drive to Siracussa, sleep Siracusa 2 nights
5) Siracussa and Ortygia
6) Mt Etna, drrive to Taoromina, sleep 3 nights
7) Taoromina
8) Castlemola
8) Drive to Milazzo, hydrofoili to Lipari, sleep Lipari 3 nights
9) Cruise to Alicudi and Fillicudi
10) Bad seas cancel trip to Stomboli to taxi around Lipari
11) Return to Milazzo, Cefalu, then Palermo, drop car off, Palermo 3 nights
12) Royal Palace, Capuchin catacombs
13) Monreale, Palermo Cathedral, churches
14) Depart
