Going in one week! I have read tons of messages and still have anxiety about packing. I refuse to look like a tourist! Any comments about dressing for dinner? What about the weather the last week of February?? Help!!

Packing anxiety: what a guy feels when he walks into a singles bar. <BR><BR>Hi jbw3. How about this? For now, try to toss the anxiety out the window and just pack what you'd like to wear. Then, once you get to Paris and see, firsthand, what people are wearing you can always go shopping and buy new clothes if they'll make you feel more at ease. Sure, it may cost a bit more but you may not end up doing it and, if you do, think of it as a relatively small price to pay to rid yourself of pre-vacation clothing angst.

your age determines a lot. my last evening there I dined at a typical good french restaurant. a couple in their 50's came to dine: woman in a longish skirt and dress boots, peasant blouse and hermes scarf/ man in slacks, plain dress shirt, ascot and tweed sport coat. across the room twoa 20ish types were in jeans, black leather jackets, shirts, gold chains and longish stringy hair. only the americans were in jeans, sport shirts and fall jackets. take your pick.

Unless you are going out to the top resturants you can dress most anyway you would for a decent resturant at home. Jeans and white tennis/walking shoes are generally the mark of an american. If you do not want to be recognized as an american you will have to learn sign language from a French person (to avoid american slang) and otherwise keep your mouth shut. The Parsians are tourist wise and usually greet you in English without you opening your mouth. Don't worry, you have what they want and that is cash or credit. Be happy that you are a tourist. Many people in this world do not have enough to eat and you can afford to travel. Have a wonderful trip to Paris! For the weather you can check the world weather forecasts before you go. February will probably be very chilly. Always carry a folding umbrella. <BR><BR>As for clothing simply wear what you usually wear when you go out to eat at home unless it's a really formal restaurant. Then you should dress formally. <BR><BR>This should be an enjoyable trip so don't stress yourself out about what clothing you should wear.
