Paris--Opera to Parc Moncau -- is this walking distance?
I'm hoping that there is someone on this forum familiar with these both that can tell me the approximate distance from the Parc Monceau to the Opera, and if you consider it walking distance, or if you would think it's necessary to take the metro between the two. Merci!

How much time have you got?For about a 3/4 hour, you would leave through Avenue Ruysdael down to Rue de Monceau, crossing over into Avenue de Messine.
This brings you to a junction with a number of streets at Place St. Augustin where you start walking down Boulevard Haussmann which will present you at Opera de Paris Garnier outside Place Diaghilev. Walk around to the front by going down rue Scribe the into rue Auber.
I know Ira has a suggestion of exactly the distance from Mappy.com

Thanks for the help! The hotel suggested I take the Roissybus to the Opera and jump on the metro from there; but being a first timer, I'm trying to avoid looking like pickpocket prey (hauling luggage, staring at a map, and probably looking like a first-timer
I like walking, I'd rather see the sites above ground than the subway, but didn't know if we were talking a REALLY long distance or bad from a safety standpoint.
Since then, I've looked at other maps and sites, and I *think* I can take the Roissybus to the Champs Elyssees/Arc as well, and I think the walk from there might actually be shorter.

The Roissybus only stops at Opéra. There is an Air France bus to Étoile - but it's not a short walk to your destination.
Have you considered the possibility of riding a city bus from Opera? The N° 94 will get you to within a hundred yards of the Hôtel du Parc Monceau at 38, Rue Cardinet, 75017 (I assume that's what you mean by "the Parc Monceau"

The Roissybus doesn't go anywhere but the Opera.
The Air France airport bus goes to the Arc de Triomphe, though. It depends where the hotel address really is, but Parc Monceau is a little bit closer to the Arc than the Opera. Definitely closer if you're talking more about the western end of it. I wouldn't walk from either location hauling luggage. It is easier to get to Monceau from the Arc by metro, though, as there is a Monceau stop right on the same line. If your hotel suggested the Opera and metro, rather than the Arc and metro, perhaps this hotel isn't really right at Parc Monceau and maybe closer to Villiers metro stop, could that be it? Why don't you say where the hotel is and which one it is, and people can advise what might be best.

Good point Christina.
I figured it would be best to explain it in terms of a landmark, but maybe not. The hotel is New Orient in the 9th and is supposed to be 5 minutes from Parc Monceau and equal distant from three metro stops, Villiers, Rome and Europe.

Now that we know where you're staying (if it's the New Orient that's in the VIIIe, not the IXe), maybe we can do a little more good.
Bus N° 66 can get you to within a 4-minute walk of that hotel. Without going underground.
Go to ratp.com and put 16 rue de Constantinople PARIS-08EME in the first blank. Hit "Plan de quartier" and see where you are. The 66 stop is down in the lower right corner.
