PARIS MYSTERY HOTEL--Help!!!
Sorry for screaming caps; goin' nuts trying to recall name of "budget" hotel in Paris. Hints: think it is in Montparnasses area or similar direction "outer district" area, around 100 euros/night or less, has little garden/courtyard. A Fodorite recommended it as being lovely, quiet and much more reasonabley priced than more well-known 6/7th arr hotels, and with more local neighbourhood atmsophere. Maybe nr Blvd Raspail? Alas, this is what I get for not bookmarking!
THANK YOU in advance et merci beaucoup, Parisian Fodorite P.I.s!

Not sure but this could be it! posted by Huitres:
Two years ago I stayed at the Hotel Stella near Montparnasse station and within walking distance to the Luxembourg Gardens. I had found the hotel in the "Let's Go! France" guide, so you won't find them on the internet because they are on the budget side with prices. I believe it was a 1* or 2*, the rooms had high, vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings with charming window boxes with flowers, overlooking a small, internal courtyard. There is no lift, however. The doubles are in the range of 60-90 euros.

There are probably a hundred hotels that fit that description, but the one by Huitres sounds like a good suspect. (It's definitely NOT the Aiglon which is not a budget hotel that cheap, and doesn't have a garden/courtyard).
You probably would do better in searching the threads if you remember who said it and approximately when.

Parisby says in the faq for the Aiglon that there is no courtyard; it isn't really a 'budget' hotel either, IMO...
Port Royal is a budget hotel, and its website says "The hotel has two lounges, a dining room with television and a patio, where, during the summer, it is pleasant to breakfast, sip a drink or read a little under a large parasol.
Breakfast is served in the ground floor dining room and in the garden."

I'm 90% sure his hotel was nr Montparnasse, nr Blvd Raspail, with recs for good local cafes. I think it was about a month ago, but often i search threads and end up reading things that are a yr or more old. Wow, that really helps you figure it out--NOT (-;
I recall the Fodorite saying something like "there are many good hotels rin the less popular "tourist' areas, that one can find for less than 100 euros. My curreent favorite is..." etc. At the time, I "googled" and found the web site. DRAT!!
If i may be so bold then, what are some of YOUR fav Montparnasse sites? Christina, perhaps? i know there's one you mention liking, but i don't recall the name, or if you'd share the info One friend loved Hotel St Beuve, tho that was NOT the one I'm seeking.
A big THANK YOU to all who take the time to respond. We often forget to say how much we appreciate the advice!

Hi
I did a search on <Raspail> on this forum and came up with these threads that mention hotels
Other threads came up in the search too, but I didn't go trough every one

I sort of remember that post -- I think that sounds like something Morganne could have said, actually. She knows Paris well as she travels there for business and often suggests good budget hotels. I remember some folks suggesting Hotel Delambre, also, in that area on a recent thread.
YOu might be thinking of Morganne's suggestion of the Hotel Saint Dominique in the 7th, as she has done that several times and mentioned the garden thing. Here is one quote by Morganne about that
<<If you want to be not far away from the Champs Elysees, I can advice these ones:
* Hotel Saint Dominique, more close than Invalides...this one is probably THE ONE I love the best...you have the impression to arrive in a green space, so charmful in Paris..people are so wonderful with you...It is a 2 star in the 7th, www.saintdominique.com! Do not miss it, please!>>
I can't find that particular thread you cite, but it could have been a mention of Montparnasse within a thread on budget hotels and included the St Dominique. That one by Huitres sounded like it was the one you wanted, but you are sure it isn't?
Well, I can't find that thread, maybe it's gone.
100 euro or less is pretty low, except for a 2* hotel in Montparnasse, and even the best ones of those aren't that low. The Ste Beauve is not a budget hotel, and nowhere near that rate (it's around 170 euro regular season).
I have stayed at and liked the Aiglon in Montparnasse, which is why I know it def. does not have a garden or courtyard, and even though it is very reasonable compared to expensive hotels in St-Germain, it's not a budget hotel nor that cheap. You can get some good deals in the summer because they discount rates between 7/15-8/31, though, and then it can be about that for the smaller rooms. I don't think anyone would note about it being particularly quiet, though, as it's right on a major boulevard. I like it, and it's no more noisy than a lot of city hotels, but I don't think anyone would comment on its quietness.
I haven't stayed in other ones right around there as I liked that one, but ones I have read/heard good things about that might fall in the good value/budget (but probalby not that cheap) category are the Delambre and the Lenox. The Atelier Montparnasse and the Jardin le Brea are also well-written about in that area, but they aren't budget hotels, either (more like 125-150 euro for a double, which is about what the Aiglon is now, I think).
I think there are some other nice hotels in that area, like the Hotel Raspail, but they aren't budget hotels and I don't know of one with a garden/courtyard, especially not in that range.
Sorry I cannot help more. It does sound like the Saint Dominique, though, in the 7th, don't you think?

Elaine, Christina, Travelnut, SuzieC, Grimmy: Merci beaucoup beaucoup for your time and efforts. I appreciate your patience and research sooo much. "That's what (Fodor's) friends are for'" ...but i don't want you to think I 've let you all do all the work. Some threads I'd checked; others, thank you for giving clues, including other websites.
I feel like such a turkey!!! Recall things bit by bit...that the writer said s'thng like, "It's not difficult to find delightful places for less than 100 euros, provided you are wiling to go outside the main part of Paris"....that this was their current favorite little hotel, rooms about 80--90 euros maybe?-that the area had a "local" feel. If I find it, i will be ecstatic --and have lots more free time away from the computer and Fodors site!
Again, thank you!!!
