I think it's perhaps the term 'paper' that has made some people suspicious or confused. In Europe - particularly in the scientific community - a paper is a peer-reviewed publication in an academic journal.

I suspect what the OP is referring to is a straighforward essay as part of an ongoing course.

(Or an attempt to get holiday tips without asking outright.

That was meant to be a smiling smiley, not a hysterical one. 8-(

RM67, you make a great point! I have often said that one can't assume that words or phrases translate across cultures, and that written words, especially emails, are subject to interpretation and MIS-interpretation. I try to never assume I know exactly what someone means, try not to be offended or angry until I'm sure of the intended meaning.

Challiman: There was a thread some time back about people in the Midwest wanting to swap houses and wondering if Europeans would be interested. Sorry I don't have time to look for it, but I know it was on Fodors. Turns out, Europeans do want to be in places in America other than on either coast. And yes, I live in the Bay Area, which makes it fairly easy to find house swaps, but take a look at Craigslist (and other house swap sites) in your area and see what people are looking for. You might be surprised. If you live near a University, I know there is a site for sabbatical swaps too.

Well, thank you very much. That really could be of interest to us. I'll check out Craigslist and others. And I'll look for the thread.
Very interesting possibilities....

Dear Mom,

Congrats on your "A"!

Also wanted you to know I'm one of 6 children. Both my parents first went to college after they had all of us. Between them they eventually accrued 2 BAs, 2 Masters, 1 MBA, and almost a doctorate. (All except the dissertation...)

I went back to school for a second degree at 42. It was really tough - mentally and physically (nursing school) but it was so worth it.

It was so stressful then, but guess what? I miss school...

Good luck to you... And I think we'll be in Prague the same time. We're there Dec 28th for 5 days.
