Paris hotels close to metro stops?

Hello Fodorites,

I am going to Paris later this summer and am looking to stay in a hotel that is no more than one or two blocks from a metro stop. I know I will need to do a lot of walking when I am there - so I want my hotel to be located very close to a metro stop. I am partial to 2 star hotels and I am not very picky about the area.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you very much.
Well, the Muguet fits that and even has an escalator on the "return" side.

Well, it's 3*** not 2, but we stayed at Hotel Residence Trocadero two years ago and the Metro stop (Trocadero) was located practically at it's front door. It was right in front of the cafe next door. It's a Best Western Hotel (not to be confused with BW's in the US, in Europe they tend to be small, individually owned hotels that subscribe to the BW marketing affiliation). We had a view to the Eiffel Tower from our room. Rooms were small but bathroom was pretty good sized. Check the BW website, it's a pretty good one.

Also have stayed at Relais Bosquet Hotel which is about 2 blocks from Ecole Militaire metro stop. Also 3***. They have a web site also (not BW).

Suggest that you buy the book "Fodors Rivages Hotels of Character and Charm". They have capsule reviews of basically 2-4 star small hotels along with maps showing exactly where each is located. Metros are listed both on the map and at the top of the capsule description.

I bought my copy four years ago, and even though the prices are now outdated, most of the information isn't.

It's particularly worthwhile when every hotel you want to book is full!

After you are able to pinpoint four to five that you think are appropriate, then use the search feature on this forum and the rants/raves on the Fodor's site.

Please be aware that there are a lot of neighborhoods and a lot of metro stops and a lot of metro lines. Pay attention to how all of them intersect.

Try the Royal Bastille on the Rue de la Roquette. Two star, metro stop outside front door, cafe adjacent, wine shop next door, patisserie 1/2 block. Urban delight.

We stayed at Hotel de Turenne in the 7th, 2 blocks from Metro Ecole Militaire. It is a 2-star, around $80, with clean rooms, renovated a few years ago (1999?). The furnishings were slightly worn, but all in all, the room was fine. Next to ATM/bank, laundromat, small grocer. Walk to Eiffel or Invalides. I like to try different areas, but would stay here again if need be. Shouldn't be hard to find them listed with photos..we booked via fax.

Let me clarify that the desktop had some scratches, that sort of thing, but the bedding and bathtowels, etc, were fine. Nice windows opened out onto the street but street noise was not bad at all. Bathroom had a double sink, kind of unusual for ** I think. It was a nice room, didn't want to disparage it.
