Paris hotels

I am open for suggestions. I will be traveling with wife and 6 year old. We want to see a lot of Paris. I have $300-$450 a night to spend on something??? Any suggestions? Right now I have 2 stars by Hotel Ares Eiffel, and 1 star by Secret de Paris and Hotel le Petit. There are may out there for around $400. Some good cafes and easy access to train/bus would be good. Nice bed would be good as well.

Thanks!

Try this link. It's an ongoing list of Paris hotels on the left bank. If you want specific hotel recommendations then it is useful to include the url for the hotel so that we can easily give feedback.

If ou illing to spend that much, I would look for an apartment. It would give you lots more room and a place for the 6 yr old to unwind. Try Vacation In Paris , my preferred agency or VRBO.

This apt belongs to a friend. You didn't give your dates and it is almost always fully booked but there are a few time slots still available

I don't understand looking for 2 and 1 star hotels. With that budget (not that you MUST spend that much) look at 3* hotels which should be in the $200 range and very nice. The advantage of a hotel is that there are people at the desk to help you make reservations, make recommendations, etc. Look for a family room. There are many recommendations here.

Everything in it is new as of last December when they fininshed the remodeling. And the guestapartment agency provides Conciegerie service if needed.

I like the apartment very much but it looks like it doesn't have A/C which might be important depending upon the time of year. If you are not familiar with Paris, you might prefer a hotel where you can easily ask questions of the front desk staff.

I don't know where you got the info that Secret de Paris is a 1* hotel, that's crazy. I think it is a 4* hotel (aren't the rooms around 150-200 euro?). The reason it is cheaper than a lot of 4* hotels is because it is in the 9th quarter, a bit north of Trinite church. I like that area and have stayed tehre several times, but I admit firt-timers to Paris may not find it as attractive as the usual areas tourists like to stay in. And actually, even for the 9th arr, that hotel is a bit more inconvenient to a metro stop (at least metro stops I like, down near the church) than where I stay. So I don't think that's agood choice for you, all in all.

I think the Ares is also a 4* hotel and that is again, an arrondisement I like, the 15th, and have stayed in and visit often. But again, I don't think it's probably the most desirable choice for a first-time and with your budget, you can stay about anywhere. And that particular location in the 15th is not where I like, either, it is near Champ de Mars on the north, around place Dupleix and that metro or La Motte Picquet metro.

So I just think you can do better on your locations, and your budget is about right for those hotels, but your info as to stars is wrong. even ifyou don't know Paris, I would hope you wouldn't think a 1-2* hotel would cost that much. Between the two, I think you might like the Ares location better. But there are so many you could choose.

There are countless threads here on Fodors regarding hotels in Paris. With your budget you can probably afford most of the ones that are recommended. Do a search and you'll find hundreds and hundreds. I don't think you have accurate information about the two hotels you mention, but it really doesn't matter because I don't think either one is probably a good choice if this is your first trip to Paris. I also think you're probably not familiar with the star ranking system for hotels in France, which is totally different from the star ranking system in the USA.

Type Paris hotels into the search function and start reading and getting ideas. I think if it's a first trip to Paris you'd probably be happy with a place in the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th arrondissement.

Sorry everyone! After looking at many reviews on this site I listed interesting hotels on a piece of paper (i.e. Odean, Crillon, Le Burgundy, Royal Magda and so on ...)and after reading more reviews I either gave it 1 star or 2 stars if I thought it sounded really interesting. These were just my notes and have nothing to do with the actual number of stars the hotel received. I guess I should have used a + sign. Sorry for the confusion.

I will keep looking at the reviews here. I started by going through the top 30 rated on trip advisor and almost all of them were $350-$1100 a night. I guess that is why I asked.

VRBO is a good idea. I have used that in the past.

Christina - where would you recommend staying?

Sorry again!

Paris probably has more good, affordable hotels than any other city in Europe. You don't need to spend $350 or up a night to find a comfortable, clean place in a good neighborhood. You don't even need to spend $200. As I said before, there are hundreds, probably thousands, of threads here on Fodors recommending hotels. Read them and check locations against a map of Paris.

The two hotels I always stay at in Paris are the Hotel Duquesne-Eiffel and the Hotel de France on the Boul. de la Tour Maubourg. But that's because I'm partial to the 7ème arrondissement and get small special treats like a free cocktail or something because I've been such a frequent client. There are innumerable other hotels in the same price range all over Paris.

We liked this hotel for our family. We paid $235/night back in 2006, for a quad room with a full-on view of the Eiffel Tower. Lovely neighborhood with market next door, close to Rue Cler, and across from the large parkway leading to the Tower. Lots of room for a child to run and play.

@ Christina. I do confirm that Secret de Paris is a 4 star hotel
It's also within the top 25 hotels in Paris on Tripadvisor.

There are 4 nice hotels on Ile Saint Louis, which will put you in the center of Paris and steps from Notre Dame. Le Jeu de Paume is the most luxurious, but the other 3 are just across the street and offer very good value for the money spent.

Le Relais de l'Odeon is a very nice hotel, if you want to stay in that area.
