Paris hotels

Hi
My daughter and I are going to London and Paris this July. I need some advice on hotel accommodations. Is there any area better to stay in than the other. We will be doing all the touristy things.. Eiffel Tower, Louve, Notre Dame etc. should we stay by the Louve 1 and 2 or perhaps 7? Our budget is between 200 and 250 a night ( dollars). Any suggestions. Would be greatly appreciated.

We feel we won't be in the hotel just to sleep but would like one that is close to tourist things so that we can walk or take the subway.

Thanks
Maria

If its proximity you want, I love the Hotel Royal St. Honore in Les Halles.

It's about a 10 min walk to the Louvre (if that...actually probably more like 5-7) and a further 15 min to Notre Dame. It is one minute from the Tuileries metro stop which is a direct line to the Champs Elysee and Arc de Triomphe. There are some great shops and markets nearby and if you're feeling energetic, Saint Germain is also walking distance.

My favorites are the 4th (Marais), 5th and 6th. Very central, convenient to all the major sites, and hotels in all price ranges.

We stayed at the Hotel Saint Louis en l' Isle (hope I spelled it right!) on the smaller island in the Seine. Location could not have been better for us; 5 minutes from Notre Dame on this very small picturesque island. My goal was to keep the cost to under 300 euro per night (this was two years ago). We ended up spending about $270 per night and loved the hotel. Not sure what the prices are now, the dollar seems stronger recently. From this hotel we easily walked everywhere (all the usual tourist spots, but adding Pere Lachaise cemetery) The only place we took public transport to was to Montmartre.

Enjoy Leslie

I am currently in Best Westin Jardin De Cluny in Latin Quarter and it's close to Notre Dame, Pantheon, Musse Cluny , st Chapelle and more. Have also stayed in Marais area - both are close to many things but give a different perspective .

Thanks to all the help. We stayed at the Hotel D'Orsay and we had a wonderful time in Paris.
