I?m flying out to Paris to rendezvous with my girlfriend on Valentine?s weekend. We?ve stayed in a more Parisian type town in the 12e arron. a few months ago. However, the hotel room was way too small and the lack of AC (late summer) compromised our comfort big time. Moreover, we always had to hurry back towards to our room at night before the metro lines closed down. Anywho, I booked a Deluxe room at the Royal for that weekend, but I?m not sure how to gauge it against other hotels in the 8e arron. (wihin same price range). I cannot find any reviews on this hotel really. I did a search on this forum and it didn?t return any results. I was really more concerned about finding the right location this time as it will be quite a bit colder this time around. I?m also looking for any type of airport shuttle service that could get me there. The metro route finder estimated the travel time from CDG to Champs Elysee to be somewhere around 1hr. At any rate, any help would be appreciated. I?ve only got about 2 ? weeks to go and I want to make sure that this hotel was a good choice. Thanks.

I don't have any intimate knowledge of it, but if it's any help, there is a customer comment on www.paris.org/Hotels

It will be convenient from the airport as you can take the Air France bus right to the arc, and it's around 10 euro per person and very convenient and comfortable--one hour would be about right for that, probably a little less. With that location, you don't need to bother with another shuttle service unless you want as I think it's within walking distance of the arc. I saw winter specials at that hotel at pretty reasonable rates for that level of hotel in that area (180-200 euro).

Thanks Christina. It would have been nice if Air France had alerted me of their airport shuttle service. First time flying Air France and I'm already starting to have reserves about their customer service. I think I'm good to go once am there as my girlfriend and I had no troubles with the Metro our first time around. I was just concerned about location vs cost. I know there might be a sacrifice in room quality sometimes if the location is very good. Downtown area hotels should fair well in any European city right? I'll be content if this hotel provides half the pleasures the Krasnapolsky (Amsterdam) presented to us last year.

My wife and I stayed there on our first trip to Paris/Europe in Nov 2002. We both thought it was very nice. The room was not huge but it was extremely cozy for us - Table, windows that opened, TV, good sized bed. The bathroom had heated towel racks, marble tile, clean. It was quiet as well. Room service was very good. We ate in our room quite a bit - potage and crudites - plus baguette/fromage that we purchased during our walks. The breakfast was expensive but good.(14?)The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The downside for us was the location. The Champs Elysee is too $$$ and too touristy to feel like you are connecting to the real Paris. We walked towards the Wagram area (NE)and found stores/shops that had a more down to earth feeling. I too could not find much information on this hotel either. Your post made me recall my worries. I thought either the place is a hidden gem or its a dump. Its definitely a gem!
