Once again I turn to the experts. My wife and I will be in Paris for a meeting next month (February) and are looking at several options for out hotel. My meeting is in the 16th district but we want to be close to tourist sites, cafes, etc. for our unscheduled time and for her time on her own. We will be there about a week; the meeting only lasts 2 days.

The two options we are considering are the Latin Quarter and the area around Rue Clare.

Any thoughts about the areas in general or hotels specifically?

Actually, you might enjoy staying in the 16th, as long as it's in a convenient area. That's a nice location and would be convenient for a hotel in Passy, for example. Rue Cler would be fine. Latin Qtr is too big a generality for me to have an opinion. Rue Cler is a very specific location, but Latin Qtr is not. I don't care for the area near the Seine, but many others have stayed there and enjoyed it.

I agree the Latin Quarter is very large but we'd probably like to be fairly close to the sights in the area. Is the 16th just too far away to be able to really enjoy Paris as tourists?

..no the 16th is not too far. Paris has a great metro. Will you be near Palais de Congress? This is right on Line 1 which makes it very easy to get into "the sites". Actually, where will your husband be attending the meeting? This may help us with specifics.

Husband will be at OECD offices; not sure of specific address but I belive on Rue Andre Pascal.

I think if you're going to be at work, and your wife will be free to tour during the day, I'd stay closer in, like the 5th or 6th (Latin Quarter) or 7th arr (Rue Cler). ESPECIALLY if it is your first time in Paris.

There are tons of suggestions on here or on tripadvisor.com for hotels. You can tell which arrondissment they are because the last two digits in the zip code indicate the arrondisement.

Do a search on Paris hotels.

I agree with wliwl. Our first time we stayed in the 13th, didn't like the area to stay in but the resto. choices were okay, moved to the 16th. Loved the 16th as it was our first visit and staying near the Eiffel Tower with a great full view from the hotel's location was totally romantic, breathtaking. But it got to be a bit of a chore for us to take the metro each time as we found out it was still not the ideal place for us. We prefer to walk out the hotel and be in the middle of things in minutes without having to depend on public transporation.

Since then we've stayed in the 4th, 5th, and 6th districts and where we always return. We've broken up our short stays into two areas each visit.
