Paris Hotel/Area Feedback

Message: http://www.hilton-paris.com/arcdetriomphe/

Just booked a week here. The hotel is not currently open and used to be a Sofitel hotel from what I understand.

Has anyone stayed at the hotel prior to it becoming a Hilton?

Any feedback on the general area at all?

Thanks.

Judging from the map, it's located in the 8th district not too far from the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe. I've stayed in the 17th dist. very close to both those same two areas. But I didn't care for it as much as the Latin Qtr. (5th dist.)and St. Germain (6th dist.). Maybe the 8th dist. is better than the 17th.

Hi MD,

So, you'll be spending the night in Paris Hilton, eh?

The area is quite nice. You are close to the Musee Jacquemart-Andre, which I recommend for Sunday Brunch and a visit, as well as the Parc Monceau.

I think I was vague on why I didn't care for the 17th dist. I found it to be too far from where I really wanted to be. There really isn't anything much there other than the Arc and the Champs d'Elysees. Champs d'Elysees is a very busy area, many stores, too many people. Our hotel was a few short blocks from the Arc de Triomphe which we saw once but that was good enough. Otherwise, we had to take the metro to get to the other side of the river. We did walk over to the Eiffel Tower but it was a bit of a walk. If it's your first visit to Paris then I think it'll be allright. It's safe and you'll have places to eat. I just prefer the 5th and 6th districts more. Sure there are alot of tourists near Notre Dame and in the Latin Qtr. but somehow I find it much more scenic than the Champs d'Elysees area.

Actually not the Paris Hilton. That one is close to the Eifell (sp). This is a new one that is opening in March of '04.

I've not found anything as of yet. I think they open in March so hopefully reports will be forthcoming then.
