Paris Hotel Advice - for next week!
We'll be in Paris in a week and have booked two hotels with a side trip to Strasbourg between the two.
First we'll be staying at the Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauge in the 5th and then on our return to Paris we'll be at the Hotel Muget. This will be over the Christmas weekend into the following week.
I had read some good reviews on the trip advisor about Muget and it seemed like a good choice - and I thought a view of the Eiffel Tower would be nice! I had some concerns about the location - needing to bus or metro to sites, but thought we'd give it a go.
But now I've read some reviews here that don't seem so good... and I'm getting nervous - particularly since we'll be there during Christmas. I read some discussion about the staff being rude - no food in your room - and rooms being small and dingy...told about view of Eiffel tower, but not really...
Doesn't sound too good to me! If you've stayed there, please let me know your thoughts...

We stayed at the Hotel Muguet last year and loved it! The location is great, on a quiet street but an easy walk to the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Rue Cler, Musee D'Orsay, Rodin Museum, lots of restaurants... We even walked to the Louvre, although that was definitely a long walk. Two metro stops are a block away, & with those you can literally get anywhere in Paris.
Our room was small, but I would certainly not consider it dingy. From what I understand, a small room is typical is Paris. It was very comfortable. We had a nice view of Les Invalides, and there are rooms on the 5th floor with E.T. views, tho I didn't personally see them. The staff was very nice, in fact Mdme. helped me get a nasty coffee stain out of my white shirt! I don't know what the policy is as far as food in the room, as that wasn't an issue for us. They have a nice all-glass breakfast room next to a pretty courtyard garden. All in all, we thought the Muguet was a great value for the money, & would definitely stay there again.
Have fun!

On our most recent visit to Paris we stayed at a little hotel near The Louvre. We went for location.Trouble is any hotel in central Paris is likely to have very small rooms and often dingy ours was! So if we visit Paris again we will stay a little way out of town. In my experience Paris is VERY expensive, and I live in London.
However what a wonderful city.
Try to fit in the Moulin Rouge what a fantastic show.

I stayed in the Muguet in June and was very happy with it. The room was very pretty and I loved the location.
I stayed there after spending a week in Provence. Prior to Provence I stayed at the Hotel de l'Abbaye in the sixth. That hotel was wonderful ( and twice the price) but I personally liked the seventh better. When I return next fall with my husband we are renting an apartment
in the seventh.
I think you will like the Muguet but to have a room with a peek at the Eiffel Tower you will have to ask for it.
I'm sure you will have a lot of travel fun!

We have stayed at Hotel Muguet twice and enjoyed both of our stays. The first time we had a larger room with view of the Tower - very nice. The second time we had a smaller room at the back overlooking the courtyard. Although it was smaller it by no means was dingy, in fact was quite nice and a lovely large bathroom. We always found the staff very helpful.
In October of this year we returned to Paris and decided to try another location so chose the Lutece on Ile St Louis. We were very happy with this hotel and it's great location, so handy to be able to walk everywhere, we never used any public transport. The room was small(as most are) but very clean and lovely large marble bathroom. The staff here is very friendly.
Christmas in Paris sounds magical - have a great trip.

To travel_fun,
Your question touches upon an area of interest - the Heni IV, the Muguet, and also Strasbourg.
I have suggested the Muguet several times but only based upon reputation. I haven't stayed there.
When you return, please share your experiences with others. Thanks.

The Muguet had some renovations within the past year, is very very popular, and I doubt much that the rooms are "dingy". Madame is rumored to be reserved and business-like, which some may think equates to 'rude'. I've read you are not supposed to bring food into your room - have read of other hotels with that policy as well. If you must do so, do it very discretely and then pack out the trash rather than leaving it in the room trash can.
The bus system greatly enhances your ability to move around, so don't forget to check into that, in addition to using the metro.

We stayed at Muguet in March and absolutely loved it. The recent renovations are really nice - the rooms feel modern and cozy. The location is good - very close to the metro station and easy walking distance to Invalides.
definitely recommend it - you can't beat it for the price, and it's a wonderful find.

Hi travel_fun,
Sorry, I can't help you with the Muguet but we'll be staying at the Henri IV Rive Gauche in May and I'd love to hear your impressions when you get back. I'd also love to hear any hints about the hotel, the neighbourhood in general, local restaurants, shops, etc.
Have a wonderful time!

You will be lucky to have a room at the Muguet--squeaky clean, GREAT location, on 5 bus lines, 2 metro lines, within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower if you want to, gazillion restaurants.
The staff is not chummy--nor do I particularly want them to be. They are helpful when needed/asked. We had food in the room and nothing was ever said. We didn't leave a mess with it.

As I said, you will love it. They completely renovated about 3 years ago--beautifully. I don't know what has been done recently.
But the restaurants within walking distance are excellent.
Do use the buses--you can get to parts of the city much quicker than by Metro, but that is good also.
