Paris Free Museum Entry?
Hi,
I would love to know if any of the museums have free admission in the evenings?
Many, I noticed, are open late one night each week. Are they free on those nights?
Thanks.

Some, like the Louvre, are free on Fridays to those under 26 years old and have reduced admission on Wednesday and Friday evenings for those over 26. The first Sunday of the month is usually free at museums that charge an admission fee. Many Paris museums are always free. You can check each museum web site for their hours and admission fees.

no, there isn't any uniform policy, each museum does what it wants, and then you get into private vs. national vs. city museums. There aren't that many that are open late, although a few of the big ones are 1-2 days a week. The purpose is to allow people to visit the museum at different hours, not to give people free admission. Now all the ones I can think of charge the same at night as any other hour, EXCEPT for the Louvre, which does have a good discount after 6 pm on the nights it is open late (from 9.5 euro to 6 euro). The issues about being free to certain EU residents at some times is not related to this discount, which is just for anyone who would normally pay regular admission.

OK. Thanks. I live in NYC. All of the museums which are open in the evenings are free at those times. Thought Paris might have the same policy. It has been such a loooong time since I visited Paris. Looking forward big time!!!

Keep in mind that during times of either free or reduced admissions, they are really crowded. Don't let that stop you from going then, but be prepared for the crowded conditions and in some cases, long lines.

Try here: http://en.parismuseumpass.com/rub-mu...-by-name-5.htm
You can click on each museum listed and it will take you to a practical information page for that museum, and gives you a link to the website, if they have one. It'll expedite your searching substantially.

Here's a helpful guide with opening hours and free admission times for the Louvre and several other museums.

DalaiLama,
Many, many thanks for the mention of the Modern Art Museum of the City of Paris. We are BIG Dufy fans, and I didn't know about that collection. I guess we'll have to go back to Paris in the future.
