onix rambla hotel - barcelona

hi fodorites,

i'm looking at this hotel for our upcoming barcelona trip:

http://www.hotelonixrambla.com/en/

DH and myself would be staying for four nights at the end of september before heading onto paris.

we don't need luxury ... just looking for something clean, safe, and comfortable. we're fairly active travelers and plan to walk or take the metro everywhere. we're not night owls by any means ... so i'm trying to stay away from las ramblas but still be well-situated to see all the major sites.

reviews on TA are very positive.

has anyone every stayed here? can anyone comment on the neighbourhood?

tks!!!

Well, the address is Rambla Catalunya so that may be on the other SIDE of the Placa Catalunya than the Las Ramblas you are trying to "stay away from."

We stayed at the Apsis Atrium Palace last time..2 blocks from the Placa Catalunya and we found that to be an excellent location..close to the Metro, shopping, ect.

Cannot comment on your specific hotel but I think the location is a good one.

hi dukey,

thanks for your post.

i don't want to be staying RIGHT in the hustle and bustle of las ramblas ... but do want to stay close enough to transportation, attractions, shopping, restaurants, etc.

the property is listed in maribel's guide and the review is quite positive ... esp. given the price.

i checked out the apsis and it's a bit out of our price range.

the onix rambla is offering 86E for a double including breakfast.

tks!!

Don't worry, the Onix Rambla is located in the safe and upscale Eixample neighborhood (left, side) on the Rambla de Catalunya, just a block west of the elegant Passeig de Gracia.
It's not on or around the Ramblas. It's north of the Plaça de Catalunya, and it fits your needs.

I agree with Maribel. This is a fine location and will be a good one for seeing sites.

hey everyone,

just a quick update ... i found the same prices on booking.com, venere.com and the hotel's website. they currently have a breakfast special going on -- 80 euros for a twin room with breakfast for two.

i emailed the hotel directly and they took my reservation and did not ask for a credit card deposit to hold it. i'm pleased with how quickly they responded to my email. i will follow up a month before our trip to confirm the reservation ... and then again two weeks before (yep, i'm paranoid).

thanks to all for your help. i'll write up my review on the hotel when i do my trip report.

I think you're really going to enjoy the Onix Rambla's great location in the Left Eixample. Have fun!

Considering this hotel too for March.

That is a good deal the OP got, as the best rates they're showing now, 10% off for advance purchase, is 106 Euro without breakfast for a Shhhh room.

Other rooms cost more.
