Paris Arrondissement Location?

I have just been checking out the 123France site and have found a hostel called La Maison with the address 67 bis rue Dutot 75015 (Metro Volontaires ligne 12) I havent been able to get a handle on the areas yet and hope that someone can tell me if this is in an inconvenient location or not? Any info on the area would be appreciated. Thanks

The hostel is in the 15th ere (the last two digits of the post code indicate the arrondissement), several blocks west of Gare Montparnasse. It's a bit out of the way of central Paris, and a walk to the closest Metro station, but I suppose you can't expect a room by the Seine on a hostel budget! I don't have any personal experience with the neighborhood, but I think the area is nice and safe. And nothing in Paris is too far using the convenient Metro system.

Hi Cosmo,

You can get a good map of your location at www.multimap.com.

It's slightly inconvenient and I wouldn't choose it myself, but it's not that terrible. There are some clubs and internet cafes around there, as well as a couple well-known hostels (more around Pasteur metro which isn't far). It's just an unremarkable middleclass residential area.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been looking at the maps prior to asking the question but am still trying to get my head around the arrondissement areas - Im sure the penny will drop soon. Thanks again

Get the Streetwise Paris map (Borders or Barnes & Noble or another large bookstore). Shows all the arrondissements, metro stops, sites, etc. You can then see where everything is located. I didn't find any area necessarily inconvenient, albeit the 15th may be a bit further out than others from the popular sites, as you just hop on a metro (may make a couple of changes but not a big deal). I figured out it was about 1/2 hour to get across Paris, if that helps.
