Paris apartment - views location ?

We are spending 6 days in Paris with 2 children (4 & 6) - with the aim of 'seeing Paris through children's eyes' (plus Euro disney). We are looking at the apartment below in the 5th Arr.

If anyone knows the location and can comment on how easy it will be for getting around the main sites I would greatly appreciate it. It says its 10 min walk from the Jardin de Luxemburg which is a great draw card for young children .

We also arrive in Paris on the Eurostar and leave on the RER (to Bordeaux). I am guessing though we just use taxi's rather than get hung up on being located close to train stations.

Apartment: ID#85 Latin Quarter/Moufftard Two Bedroom, 31 Rue Tournefort, 75005 Paris, http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_85.htm

Many thanks

Salandos,

You couldn't ask for a better location. It's accessible, and Paris is easy to get around by Métro.

Your children might enjoy the zoo at Jardin des Plantes, which is within walking distance.

This looks like a very nice apartment, with a great kitchen by Paris standards. If you're planning on cooking (or not), don't miss the market on rue Mouffetard.

$270USD / night which is just over $200 Euro by my calculation.

Not sure how that rates for apartments?

Hi, Salandos- looks a great apartment in a good location.

AS to the price, I usually compare with what a hotel would cost - with two kids, you have a choice of either two rooms, preferably interconnecting, or a family room - a bit cramped for 6 nights, IMO.

You'd be lucky to do either for under 200E, which makes the apartment a steal.

Have a great time!

while studying abroad in paris last year I found that taxis are just too expensive. the metro is very easy to use, the first step of course is figuring out what line your stop is on. If you are worried about kids on the metro, there are a lot of french families that use it as their primary transportation and the only time i think its a bad idea is if one of your children requires a stroller. French taxi drivers will charge you more to have 4 people in the cab and if you don't speak french or are unfamiliar with Paris, you can easily be ripped off... needless to say, if you are planning on using taxis be prepared for it to cost you 15-20 euros each time. if you do decide to use the metro, buy a "carnet" its around 10 euros for 10 tickets, which can be divided up among your family. If you need any help finding an apartment, my parents had a great experience, and I could give you the info if you haven't already booked yours.

Check out the little zoo at Jardin des Plantes which is not far from the apt.

Looks like a nice apt at a reasonable rate. It is a good location and your children will love the park and the nearby zoo.

I think you'll be able to manage the metro. If you avoid it at the busiest times of day you should be able to get seats.

Have fun.

We've rented 4 times from vacationinparis and never had any problems. I am thinking of renting that particular apartment for our next trip. We stayed in #112 this past November and fell in love with the neighborhood. We plan to take son and daughter-in law next year so we will need a bigger space. My only concern is the shower. Is it wall mounted or hand held?

That is a great location, I know it pretty well and really like it. It will be convenient for lots of things, as well as a pleasant place to stay for proximity to shops, the park, etc.

I think the apt is adequate for that price because it's two bedrooms and about 600 SF. I would think it not that suitable for four adults from the bed descriptions, but should be okay for your younger children. The kitchen looks okay and the LR doesn't have the greatest furniture but that is, unfortunately, typical of these vacation rental apts.

Have you seen photos of the bedrooms or bathroom? They might be hiding something, you can bet, and that's why they aren't showing them. I had dealings with that agency once and they refused to show me photos of the bedroom and bathroom, also, so I went elsewhere. Later I found out why, the bedroom was not that desirable and barely larger than the bed.

If you have any concerns about the apartment call or e-mail them. They always responded to my questions and I did not feel misled by them in any way. Ask specific questions like how big is the bedroom? Are there any closets? What is the configuration of the shower? Even if things are not completely ideal you need to consider the price and figure our if you can manage with a little less of one thing in exchange for something else. If you want really nice furniture check out Chez Vous apartments and then compare the prices.
