Actually, it could make sense that they can do a refund with the card itself, but not without it. Sort of -- they can charge things to a card without having the card itself (I've ordered things by phone in France and my hotel charged me something extra without having my card, also), so it seems an odd protection not to allow refunds without the card.

I don't know what the deal is with the refunding part (whether you need to card to refund but not to charge), but wanted to note that I just talked to Alex about my cancellation (I'm th OP).

Even though they didn't re-rent all of the days, he's still giving me the full refund, less 30 euros bank fee. I am thrilled! because he could have held back those days and didn't.

Just wanted you all to know - they are a class act agency, IMO.

Iwan - so glad it worked out. Yes, I do think they are a fine agency - I have no issues with them - it was just a strange experience.

Hey MomDDTravel! I was looking at the posts for France and saw this one by Iwan2go. Funny you should be in Paris starting 12/23 as my 2 sisters and I will arrive there on 12/26, then leave back for the U.S. on Saturday 12/3.

For everyone who's posted in this thread - did the process of finding an apartment take you awhile to do? My process took my about a month or so to search out all the websites that rented apartments in Paris. Then from there it was a matter of price and location. I saw some apartments I liked, but wasn't too thrilled about the refundable deposit that was about as much as renting the place.

In the end, we went with Vacations In Paris (http://www.VacationInParis.com). The original apartment we wanted for our time in Paris had just been rented out to someone a week before I called! They did have another apartment in the 4th arr that could accommodate us without any problem tho. Here's the apartment:

I'm looking forward to my trip!

trafaelwyr - I like the looks of that apartment! The hard part for us was wanting a "real" three bedroom.

It took me a few weeks to get our apartment but I did start a while back..as soon as our flights were booked.

Maybe we will pass on the streets

Hi trafaelwyr

Our party will be in Paris from Dec 19th to 28th. As there will be 10 or 11 of us, it was a bit of an effort finding a suitable apartment. We had found one through Paris Attitude - I must say they do have an attitude!

I originally started making enquiries last year. PA had a great apartment in the 10th. They emailed me all the documentation with the 2008 dates in the contracts in September. After I had agreed to the terms, suddenly, they emailed back saying that they were under the impression that we wanted it in December 2007 (remember the documentation had 2008 dates). I immediately phoned PA who said the owner wasn't prepared to rent that far out and to try again in January.

When I called in January, I was assured the apartment was available. Deja vu - Next day I received an email again owner wasn't prepared to rent that far out.

At this point I gave up on PA. They take a 33% commission, after you pay them the commission all further communication is with the owner, they do not even show up to give you the keys, you have to clean the place yourself. I then went back to an apartment I had enquired about through an agency that specialises in gay rentals, but are happy to rent to gay friendly heteros. They have been very co-operative and while the apartment is smaller, it is much better value and I only deal with them.
