Paris

My girl friend and I will be spending 2 days in Paris on May. I know 2 days is not enough but that is all I got. I have never been to Paris before and we are looking for a reasonable hotel/place to stay preferably close to the tourist spot and transportation. Also any suggestions on restaurants/eatery and tops tourist spots to see.

There is only one place we stay since 1980 -- Hotel Henri IV. There is no better location in Paris, and no less expensive place. However, toilets down the hall. Some rooms have showers. All have sinks. A bit dingy... but we like to save our money for eating great food! It's 20 feet from Pont Neuf on the Isle. No traffic there, so it's the only place I know of where you can sleep with windows open and have almost no noise. I'm not kidding, though, when I say NO FRILLS!Almost no English spoken. Also, booked months ahead... must send deposit in Euros from a FRENCH bank (major pain but worth it.)

You don't give age or budget, but we really enjoy the one-star St. André des Arts right off St. Germain. Odéon metro and St. Michel metro are both just a few minutes away- Odeon through the famous Cours, and Place St. Michel with its beautiful fountain just down the street. Exit the Odéon metro, cross the street and walk down the medievel alley (cour de...the name evades me at the moment), where the historic Café Procope is located, and at the other end is the little St. André des Arts. Irish pub across the street lends ambience but will be noisy. Last time we stayed there singles were in the high 60's, doubles around 88 e. and quads 120e including breakfast.

we just stayed at the clean two star timhotel palais royal behind the louvre and comedie francaise for 79 euros including tax and breakfast.

this hotel was a real surprise for me.
if i am watching my budget then i will definitely stay here again.

there is a bus at the door that goes to the marais, bus 29.

i also liked the sully st. germain on rue des ecoles.

"we are looking for a reasonable hotel/place to stay"
LOL. Before "someone" suggests that a €5000 castle is reasonable, let me assume you mean modestly priced.
A room in Hotel Residence Monge in the 5th arrondisement can be had for less than €90 a night. It is clean, central, and the owners are very helpful. It is located between two Metro stops and is a favorite with people on this forum.

Have a look at the destination planner for Paris on this site.
What do you want to see? What are your interests? With 2 days you will need to filter, because you cannot see everything. Museums...Louvre,Orsay,Rodin, Marmottan, Moyen Age...
Churches...Notre Dame, St Chapelle
Walks...Champs Elysee, Seine, Left Bank, Ile St Louis, Marais
Others..Seine River Cruise, Berthillon Ice cream, Segway tour, walking tours, classical music concert, view from Scare Coeur, Palais Royal, Luxembourg Gardens, Place des Voges, Garnier Opera house, Tuileries Gardens, Place de la Concorde, Promenade Plantee

Your 2 days are blown

Read the guide, do a search here (lots of itineraries have been posted), lots of resto recs have also been posted, lots of hotel recs. Once you narrow it down, people here can commment on your plans.

Hi

My wife and I went to Paris in April last year and it is an amazing city. I have posted a trip report with pictures and links on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there. I have also made an interactive Google map on http://gardkarlsen.com/paris_france_map.htm . On the map I have put markers on some of the attractions of Paris and some of the restaurants we went to. Click on the markers for more info. Hope this helps a little

Regards
