Dijon or Beaune for a wheelchair user?
Hi, I posted this first in the France section then realised it might not get many replies do I am posting it again here. !! -
My husband and I are planning a trip to Burgundy this April and are planning to stay 5 nights in either Dijon or Beaune. I am a wheelchair user and am wondering if anyone knows which is the best place for access around the town, into restaurants etc. We will only be using either of them as a base to get around Burgundy but obviously will have to spend every evening in whichever town we choose so need it to be the easiest for the wheelchair. Any ideas?

Just so you know, it doesn't matter what forum you post in. It all shows on the Europe board. Also, you can post ttt (to the top) to bring a thread back to the top to give others a chance to see it. Good luck with getting your answer!

wheel chair user or mobility challenged with steps, you may do yourself a favor to find out what floor the bathroom is on in a restaurant.
having just been in paris with my mom, i would say it is the MOST difficult part of the day as the steps are almost exhausting in themselves for someone with a mobility problem.

Thanks Cimbrone - I realised the message showed on the Europe forum also only after I had posted the question a second tme ! I am paraplegic, Lincasanova, so there is no going up and down steps for me unless I am carried up them, which isn't my favourite pastime !
I have always found France difficult to find disabled toilets etc, but I love the country and try not to let that put me off going. I really just need to know if Dijon or Beaune is best for accessibility - dropped kerbs, minimal cobblestones etc. Anyone help with that?

Hi Julie and welcome on board
I saw your posting yesterday but couldn't find anything on Dijon websites about what has been done for wheelchair owners. All I could find was about restaurants and hotels but maybe you know them already.
There has been a big change on one of the main squares, just in front of the ducal palace, no cobblestones anymore, no sidewalks. But otherwise Dijon and Beaune are historic cities and you still can find narrow streets with cobblestones.
Have a look at my Dijon pics to get an idea http://tinyurl.com/okerl

Thanks everyone.
We have decided on Beaune as a base and will just hope for the best. We will be touring about most daytimes anyway and the hotel we have booked has a good restaurant so if the town is a problem we can just stay there. Many thanks for all your comments.
