Last Nov I stayed 4 nights at the Best Western Left Bank St. Germain and enjoyed the stay very much. We stayed in a family-size room and were very comfortable. Good breakfast in the morning, rooms are very clean, terrific neighborhood, hepful staff, next door to Le Procope resturant (wonderful history). The room walls are fabric-upholstered and the ceilings have oak and walnut support, which gives it a warm, cozy feeling. I noticed there was air conditioning in the room, definitely well heated in the winter (fabric and wood). St. Germain neighborhood is tops, I would return again to this hotel in a heartbeat.

Yes, there are alot of comments about Le Madison and the Left Bank St. Germain hotels here but not alot of recent comments about Parc St. Severin. Just type in the hotel's name in the search box above to get the comments.

The Madison & Left Bank St. Germain have very favorable comments.

I always stay at Le Madison while in Paris. you'll love it. The location is perfect and right across the street is one of the oldest churches in Paris. The staff is terrific especially Alain. the breakfast room is delightful and choices are many.

you'll like this hotel very much!

You couldn't go wrong with any of those hotels. Our personal preference is also the Madison, in which most of the rooms are a good size.

We followed advice here and booked a week at the Parc Severin a couple years ago, but only on the guarantee of getting room 70, which is the only room on the top or 7th floor. It has a wrap around terrace on three sides with fantastic views. It was splendid. Otherwise the rooms in the hotel are nice, but nothing special, and having also stayed at Best Western Left Bank, I suppose I'd prefer it for a regular room, although my favorite for the price would still be a deluxe room at Le Regent on Dauphine. Although some have raved about the Madison, I think the reviews are too mixed for me to give it a go. The only negatives I recall about Le Regent were from people who said the rooms were too small -- but I think all of those took the standard, not the deluxe rooms.

I haven't read any negative reviews about the Madison and would like to know where to find them.

I passed Le Madison last week and noted it, having read lots about it here. My only concern would be noise, b/c of it's location on Blvd. St-G., but I assume it has double windows or there would have been complaints about it. It certainly has a great location, otherwise!

The windows are double-glazed, and I believe the rooms are soundproofed. As for noise from the Bvd. St.-Germain, the hotel is actually not ON the Blvd.--it's set back behind a small square (more of an oblong, really) with trees. The street that the hotel is on is behind the square; so there's insulation from the traffic.

Room 50 at Parc St. Severin is large and has a wonderfully large bathroom, bigger than some hotel rooms in Paris. It's a deluxe or superior or whatever, not a standard, but not one of the ones on the top floor that has the balcony you always see pictured and that Patrick mentions.

Yes, Julie is right. I failed to mention that I believe there are a couple of those superior rooms at Parc Severin also. My post seemed to indicate that all the other rooms except #70 was ordinary. Not so.

Do a search here for the Madison. I know I have seen reports of the rude staff, the tiny rooms, uncomfortable beds, the promise of one facing front but getting a dark one, and other similar problems. But I agree there are many more favorable reviews than unfavorable, including a number of regulars who truly rave about it.

Hi,

We are staying at the Madison in April - mainly because of all the positive comments we have seen on this board. I think the key is to make sure you have a room facing the boulevard. I have read the ones facing the back can be small and dark feeling. That seems to be the only negative and the location does look perfect. I'll report back later, but I think Madison would be a good bet.
