Panty hose with sandals?
After reading all the threads about wearing sandals in Paris, I have understood that sandals are OK, as long as they are of the ?dressed? variety. However, I still have a question: On chilly days & eves, I like to wear panty hose. Is it OK to wear panty hose with the sandals?
This question is as pointless as the thread about only having a bathtub and how would the woman wash her hair. If I were you Lisa you had better ask the Fashion Queens on this board about acceptable :underwear, deodorant, perfume, makeup, toothpaste, bra nd of cotton swabs to buy, shampoo, type of soap that will be socially acceptable in Paris.

The probability that you'll ever see any of those people again is slight, so wear what you wouldn't be embarrassed to wear at home and be comfortable. I ended up wearing knee-highs with long skirts and sandals because I was getting killer blisters with the sandals and all that walking. And it was, indeed, a bit chilly. I do think, however, that reinforced toes shouldn't be visible.

Absolutely not!

And men should never wear socks with sandals, docksiders or loafers, even loafers with tassels!

You wear socks with lace up dress shoes. You wear socks with tassle loafers only if you are going to church or a bidness appointment!

US

I guess I missed the sandals thread, but I wouldn't wear sandals in Paris or any other city except for a brief foray out of the hotel because they're cities and your feet get dirty so quickly. I really can't picture panty hose with sandals as a general concept to begin with, but seems to me then you've got something else to get dirty quickly.

Lisa, What I want to know is, what color of panty hose are okay to wear in Paris? I mean, like, nude? Or maybe suntan? I hear black is all they wear in Europe. Is it okay if they aren't black?

And, what about sheen. Are only sheers acceptable? And, is it okay to stop the run with clear nail polish, or should I just throw them out. I mean, if the run hardly shows or anything...

I really must know. I don't want to make a fashion mis-statement and be seen as another loser American tourist!

Thanks,
Notta

Yoo Hoo! Uncle Sam! This is the Voice of the Great Pacific Northwest, land of the Birkenstock. These sandals are frequently worn with thick, wooly socks, especially if the wool is off white, flecked with blue, grey or black.
(And, especially if it is cool out!) So, if you come up our way to visit, if you don't want to be labeled a tourist, be sure to bring your Birks and socks. You will look so much like a native, people will be stopping you to ask for directions!

Aunt Jennie,

I'll never be mistaken for a native...too conservative, Southern accent and I'll be the dry one!

Just kidding about the dry thing. I've been to the PACNW numerous times and have seen rain only once in Portland. Folks didn't even have umbrellas, it was if they didn't mind getting wet.

Different place, but I do like your microbrews and your fresh salmon!

US

I wear the "toeless panty hose" all the time with my sandals when I want to dress them up a bit. They are wonderful and your beautiful polished toes still show and yet the legs and heels look smooth. However,They can be expensive like $10-15 a pair when you buy the Donna Karan and Hanes. Penny's and Sears (about $5.00 a pair) sold them last year but have had a hard time finding them this year. I did go to an outlet store and bought several pair. i love them and highly recommend them.
Shar
