Panic. Mild Panic. Cave closures?

I just cleverly figured a way four of us from work could get away without disturbing the workplace too much and now I see Lascaux II will be closed exactly when we plan to be there. Please, someone, tell me it isn't so. Maybe it's a minor closure, just a little part of the display. Everyone doesn't pack up and go home, do they? Will the security guard still be there? Lordy. Hmmm. Maybe I can finagle a different date out of our scheduler. Well, while I'm here, does anyone know of a Toulouse hotel with an airport shuttle Our last night will be spent in Toulouse or close to the airport for an early morning flight home. Thaks for your advice. I love this forum, I'm learning so much.

You can see Lascaux II only with a guide, as if you were going into a real cave. If part of it is closed, all of it will be closed. But there are other caves that can be enjoyed. I happen to like Rouffignac for its difference: a train ride into the cave, a different geology, evidence of prehistoric animals in the cave. But it is monochrome.

Dear pdx,

I'm sorry, but Lascaux II is always closed for the month of January.

See http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/lascaux/en/

Other caves in the area can be found at

We were so impressed with Font de Gaume that we never bothered to go to Lescaux II. On course we only had a couple days in the region or we probably would have. However there are, as have been noted, several interesting alternatives. You will LOVE it!

Thanks, Uh-Oh, I was hoping someone would say that. I still have to research the others amd make sure they are open late January. This damn work: it gets in the way of my travel planning.
