Is Brugge really closed on Monday?

I was just told that basically Brugge is shut down on Mondays, everything closed, etc. Is this true? This would definately put a kink in our plans. I definately don't want to miss this town. Help! Jennifer

As far as I'm aware Bruges is fine on Mondays. When I was there it was Tuesdays that lots of places were closed.

The thing about Mondays is that many leading museums are closed, including the fascinating Groeninge and Memling museums. Churches are open, and while some shops remain closed on Monday mornings, most reopen around 1-2 pm.

We were there on Sunday & Monday last Sept. Other than the museums being closed on Monday, there wasn't anything else closed that we might wanted to have seen. In many places in Europe, some shops are closed on Monday mornings (like Alec indicated) but, IMO, shops are not what you go to Brugge to see anyway. There sure seemed to be plenty open, however.

Thanks for all of the replies. I really appreciate it! I guess I don't need to rearrange our schedule after all. Jennifer

It does appear that most museums are closed on Mondays. See this website for more info:

The same website has some very useful information including shopping hours:
